Domer finishes sixth in team roping; Rangers finish 16th at 2012 CNFRJune 17, 2012
CASPER, Wyo. - Collin Domer finished fourth in the short round (6.6 seconds) on Saturday evening to secure a sixth-place finish in the team roping competition at the 2012 College National Finals Rodeo which ran from June 10-16. Domer's efforts helped the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo team finish 16th as the squad piled up 230 points.
Domer's third-round time of 8.3 put him seventh in the average and guaranteed him a spot in Saturday's final round. He finished his first two rounds in 9.2 and 13.1 seconds for an average of 37.2 for all four rounds. He roped with Cody Carlin (Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College).
Two other Rangers sparkled during Friday's third round of the rodeo, but did not make Saturday's final round. Will Howell won the tie down roping with a time of 7.5 seconds. Howell finished round one in 11.3 seconds and recorded a no time in the second round en route to finishing 28th.
Kyle Irwin was leading the third round of the steer wrestling (3.7 seconds) before being edged by Chadron State's Miles Spickelmeier, who finished a tenth of a second better than Irwin (3.6 seconds). Irwin finished 16th after finishing round one in 14.9 and round two in 5.1 seconds for an average of 23.7.
Cody Burkholder finished 29th in the saddle bronc. Dustin Searcy roped with Cale Markham (Coffey) and finished 23rd while Tanner Braden roped with Clay Pianalto (Bacone) and finished 28th.
Walla Walla Community College won the men's side of the rodeo with 750 team points.
