Paula (Stout) Crandall, a native of Cherokee, was an outstanding member of the Ranger women’s basketball team from 1979 to 1981. After transferring from Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Crandall guided Northwestern to a 46-13 record in her two seasons. She led the 1980-81 team to a District 9 regular season title, averaging 20.9 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. That Ranger team finished the regular season with just one loss and ranked as the No. 1 NAIA team in the nation before suffering an upset in the district playoffs. Crandall ended her two-year career with 987 points, an average of 16.7 points a game. She was named to the first team all-district squad as a senior and was named the District 9 Tournament’s Most Valuable Player that year. In addition, she played in the East-West all state game which featured the state’s top college players. Crandall’s father, Loyd Stout of Cherokee, was one of the five members inducted into the inaugural class in 1993. Crandall presently lives in Little River, Kan., where she coaches basketball.
