Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletics

Walter “Junior” Johnson is a 1950 graduate who starred in basketball, football and baseball during his playing days in the Red and Black. He later went on to a successful 35-year coaching career at Northwestern.
           
Johnson was an All-Oklahoma Collegiate Conference selection in basketball and football and led the 1949 Ranger cagers to a spot in the national tournament. At different periods in his career, Johnson was the head coach for four different Ranger sports: baseball, basketball, tennis and track. His track squads won four conference championships.
