East Central Cruises to Win Over Rangers

ADA, Okla. -- Spencer Bond passed for 226 yards and accounted for four touchdowns as East Central (3-3) toppled Northwestern Oklahoma State 41-3 Saturday night.

The Tigers started the game on offense and drove deep into Northwestern territory. From there Brian Gonzalez connected on a 37-yard field goal to give ECU a 3-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter the Tigers capitalized on a turnover inside Ranger territory. Two plays later Bond tossed a 21-yard touchdown to LaQuan Harper to make it 10-0.

After forcing a Northwestern punt, the Tigers drove to the Rangers' one-yard line. Bond scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a quarterback sneak, to give the Tigers a 17-0 lead.

The ECU defense came into the week leading the Great American Conference in takeaways, and they continued that trend. With two minutes remaining in the second half the Tigers forced a second fumble deep in Ranger territory. ECU then drove down to the one-yard line and Bond found Colter Huff in the corner of the end zone to give ECU a 24-0 halftime lead. ECU continued to keep the pressure on Northwestern after the break, adding 17 second-half points to cushion the lead.

Edgar Colmenares connected on a 22-yard field goal as time expired for Northwestern. Kyle Jech passed for 109 yards and Zachry Doyle rushed for 36 yards to lead the Rangers.

Northwestern returns home next Saturday and hosts Southeastern Oklahoma for homecoming. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
