GOODWELL, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Basketball took down non-conference foe Oklahoma Panhandle State Tuesday evening by a final score of 72-63 for the Rangers first victory of the 2015-16 season. 

Individual Leaders
  • Deja Beechum led the Rangers in overall scoring with 18 total points on the night. Beechum also finished with seven rebounds along with one steal and one block.
  • Micaela Yu and Ashley Pride each scored in double figures for Northwestern as well with Yu totaling 18 points and Pride racking up 11.
  • Kamera Bozeman was the driving force on the defensive side of the ball as she was able to pull down 11 total rebounds against the Aggies. Bozeman had a solid all around night scoring eight points, and recording two blocks and two steals.
     
Game Changer
  • The black-and-red saw themselves down early on at the end of the first quarter with the Aggies finding success, leading 15-13. Northwestern battled back however in the second quarter as the Rangers went on a 14-0 run to end the first half and be up on Panhandle State 33-26.
  • The Rangers continued to use their momentum to their advantage as the visitors would lead after three quarters at 55-49. Northwestern saw their biggest lead of the game come at the 02:26 mark in the fourth quarter after a layup by Pride put the black-and-red up by 13 points over the home team and would seal off the contest by a final score of 72-63.
  • Three point shooting was definately a factor in this match-up as the Rangers were able to go 6-12 (50%) from beyond the arc as compared to Panhandle State finishing 3-9 (33.3%) from three point range.
    • Beechum alone was responsible for four of those three pointers as she would finish the contest 4-4.
       
News & Notes
  • This marked the first victory of the season for Northwestern Women's Basketball as well as the first win for Brett Vana at the NCAA level as a head coach and first win as Northwestern's head women's basketball coach.
