Volleyball Experiences Both Sides of the Sweep

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball swept Oklahoma Panhandle State University in the first match of a Tri-Match in Hays, Kan. by a score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-13.)


Game 1

Individual Leaders
  • Natalie Fahey had a banner offensive day for Northwestern as she had 11 kills while hitting .611 for the match. 
  • Asia Pipkin filled up the stat sheet with seven kills, three assists as well as seven digs.
 
 Game Changer
  • In the first set of action the Rangers opened up a 6-2 lead on the Aggies fueled by kills from Pipkin, Fahey and Hannah Williams. Fahey continued to establish her presence by slamming down six thrills throughout the set, allowing the Rangers to cruise to a 25-17 victory.
  • Fahey and company would continue to ride the momentum built in the first set and established a 17-9 lead to start the second set. Northwestern allowed Panhandle State to come back into the ballgame with an 8-1 Aggie run, but the Fahey and Pipkin duo would help close out the set with another Rangers victory, this time by a score of 25-21.
  • The sweep would be completed thanks to a 7-0 start by the Rangers followed up by multiple attack errors by the Aggies, allowing the Rangers to take the set 25-13.
News and Notes
 
  • Northwestern produced a hitting percentage of .202 throughout the match while only committing 15 attack errors.
 
  • The sweep of the Aggies marks the first sweep in favor of the Rangers this season

Location:  Gross Memorial Coliseum- Hays, Kan.

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball was swept by Fort Hays State University in the final match of the Tri-Match hosted by Fort Hays.

Individual Leaders  
Game Changer
  • The Rangers once again got off to a good start in the second match of the evening with a service ace followed up by two kills from Fahey to take the first lead of the ball game at 5-3. A back-and-forth battle raged on throughout the remainder of the set with both teams executing efficient offenses. The score differential never reached more than two points for either side, leading to a 25-25 tie. A huge block followed by a kill for the Tigers ultimately won them the set 27-25.
  • The second set would prove quite the opposite in comparison with the first set as the Tigers settled in and jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the set. Northwestern battled back with three points of their own, but two separate runs of four straight Fort Hays points eventually allowed them to pull ahead, winning the set 25-13.
  • Northwestern found themselves down by as much as 20-8 before willing away a few points late in the set to lose 25-12.
