Rangers Stumble in 62-23 Loss to Henderson State

Box Score

The Basics
Score: Northwestern 23 – Henderson State 62
Records: Northwestern (1-2, 1-2 GAC) – #8 Henderson State (3-0, 3-0 GAC)
Location: Carpenter-Haygood Stadium – ARKADELPHIA, Ark.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State offense was unable to get anything going in this one, while #8 Henderson State scored early and often. The Rangers went 3-and-out on their first six drives of the game, unable to move the ball with any effectiveness in the first quarter. By the time Northwestern found the end zone, the Reddies had already put up 38 points. While the Ranger offense was able to put up 23 points (most scored on Henderson defense this season), consistency in gaining momentum proved impossible.
Individual Leaders
  • Horatio Smith managed to put together a solid afternoon, pulling in 8 catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.
  • Reid Miller went 24/45 for 253 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
  • Malcolm Robinson lead the Rangers in rushing with 27 yards on 8 carries.
  • Maurice Wright Jr. was in on 11 tackles and forced a fumble in the first quarter

Game Changer
  • The Reddies defense was able to hold Northwestern without a first down until midway through the second quarter, and it wasn't until a Shane Collins interception at the Henderson 25 yard line that the Rangers would run a play from Henderson's side of the field.
  • Henderson State used a disabling air attack against the Northwestern defense in the first half, consistently moving the ball up field and putting points on the board.
  • Reid Miller connected with Horatio Smith and Lorenzo Rosario III for his two touchdowns on the afternoon. Miller was under pressure often in this one, losing two fumbles to go along with two interceptions.

News & Notes
  • It seemed as though the Ranger offense was having some difficulty with the field conditions, as there were multiple occasions where ball carriers appeared to slip.
Up Next
Northwestern looks forward to returning home next weekend after two straight road losses. The Rangers will take on Ouachita Baptist University Saturday at Ranger Field in Alva for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
