Golden Suns Snap Lady Rangers Win Streak

ALVA, Okla.- Arkansas Tech snapped Northwestern Oklahoma State University's three-game winning streak with a 77-57 defeat of the Lady Rangers.

The defeat pushes the Lady Rangers back to 6-12 on the year and 5-7 in conference. The home loss marks just the fourth time all season the black-and-red has been defeated inside Percefull Fieldhouse. Seniors Ashley Pride and Jonae Isaac led the way in the scoring category for the Lady Rangers with 15 and 14 points respectively.

The Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech shot an outstanding 57.1% from the field on 28-for-49 shooting. The Golden Suns also hit 8-of-18 three-pointers along the way. The Lady Rangers struggled against a long and athletic Arkansas Tech defense and shot just 29.8% from the field on 17-for-57 shooting.

Arkansas Tech got started early, jumping out to a 24-11 lead with 2:13 remaining in the first quarter. Northwestern struggled to find an answer to a 2-3 match-up zone that the Golden Suns opened the game with. Golden Suns forward Danielle Frachiseur had 11 points in the first quarter alone, propelling the Golden Suns to a 26-18 first quarter lead. Frachiseur led the way for all scorers in the game with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks to emphasis the length of the Arkansas Tech back court that head coach Tasha Diesselhorst thought could prove to be the difference maker in the ball game.

Northwestern came out strong following the break in action and went on a 9-5 run in the early stages of the quarter to bring the Arkansas Tech lead to just 33-25. The Golden Suns quickly responded with six straight points of their own to regain the big lead. The Lady Rangers found themselves down 44-28 going into the halftime break.

Arkansas Tech would provide no break for the Lady Rangers early in the third quarter, as their outstanding shooting across the board proved too much for the Northwestern defense. A quick stretch of multiple points directly out of the halftime break gave the Lady Rangers no chance of a comeback. Through two and a half quarters of action the Golden Suns were shooting just over 70% from both the field and the three-point line.

Both teams went deep into their benches in the fourth quarter for the remainder of the ball game as the Golden Suns cruised home to victory.
