Lopez Saves the Day as Rangers Win 2-1 Over ECU

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University women's soccer came out on the winning end of a 2-1 dogfight over East Central University Thursday evening. With the Rangers hosting Autism Awareness night at the Alva Rec Complex, a lively crowd witnessed two second half goals to propel the black-and-red over the Tigers.

Trying to kick a two-game slide, the Rangers controlled play for the majority of the first half, outshooting the Tigers 10-4. Northwestern managed a flurry of shots midway through the frame, but ECU keeper Chloe Hull stood strong. Hollie Pankake, the 5'3" sophomore, had four shots in the first period. The Owasso, Okla. product led the Rangers with seven attempts on the evening.

Northwestern narrowly missed opening the scoring in the 48th minute as Pankake's header missed the Tiger net by a matter of inches. But the Rangers continued to press, and their hustle paid off in the 59th minute.

After Pankake's blistering shot was directed wide by the keeper, Calvonis Prentice scooped up the rebound and buried her fourth goal of the 2017 campaign, sending a charge through the Northwestern fans.

It looked as though all was going well for a 1-0 Ranger victory, until a foul in the box by Hudsyn Childs in the 85th minute resulted in a penalty kick attempt from Lizette Carreon. Carreon made no mistake, kicking it past a diving Kylee Loustaunau to tie the game up 1-1.

With their sights set on a win instead of a tie, Northwestern never let up in the closing minutes. After continuing to press the Tiger defense, Karla Lopez found the back of the net in the 88th minute to save the day for the Rangers, giving them their fourth win of the season.

Northwestern outshot East Central 25-13, including 12 shots on goal. Loustaunau was rarely tested, but did manage four saves in the victory.
