RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State football team went on the road and suffered a 66-10 loss at the hands of Arkansas Tech.
The Rangers struggled to get things going and were outgained on the afternoon by a final total of 563 yards to 267. Arkansas Tech jumped out to a 35-10 lead at halftime and never looked back, tacking on 31 unanswered points in the second half.
The ground game of the Rangers provided a bright spot despite the rough afternoon, as the Black-and-Red accumulated 158 total yards on the ground. Tailbacks
Jacob Peyton and
Jalen Williams rushed for 57 and 44 yards respectively, while quarterback
Isaiah Weed added 41 of his own.
Junior
Horatio Smith hauled in the lone touchdown of the afternoon for the Rangers, a 21-yard score at the 2:28 mark of the second quarter. Smith recorded five receptions and totaled 56 of Weed's 91 yards through the air.
Kicker
Zave Goodrich added the other three points for the Rangers at the 1:24 mark of the first quarter.
The Rangers will look to rebound after two tough outings with the final three contests of the year taking place against in-state rivals Southern Nazarene, Oklahoma Baptist, and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The quest to string together victories to end the season on a high note will begin on the road in Bethany, Okla. against the Crimson Storm on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. The Rangers will then return home for games against Oklahoma Baptist and Southwestern on Nov. 4 and Nov. 11.
