Rangers Battle In 3-2 Loss to #7 Oklahoma Baptist

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University women's soccer scored two quick goals in the first half on Wednesday night but it wasn't enough to knock off #7 Oklahoma Baptist as Northwestern was downed 3-2.

The Rangers got off to a slow start in the contest and found themselves trailing 2-0 to the Bison after 25 minutes of play. After two goals from Bison forward Ruth King, Northwestern was looking for holes in the Oklahoma Baptist defense.

Fresh off a well-deserved Great American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week selection, junior Kylee Wallace made the start in net for head coach Craig Liddell. The Las Vegas, Nev. native faced seven shots on goal, making four saves in the loss.

Junior Karla Lopez buried her sixth goal of the season in the 32nd minute to cut the deficit to one, and only four minutes later the Rangers managed to tie it up. Substitute Kaylie Cunningham electrified the crowd when she netted her first tally of the year to even the score at 2-2.

But Oklahoma Baptist had a quick answer just a minute and a half later as Lara Haring-Lovett scored what would turn out to be the game winner in the 38th minute of the opening half.

The second half saw tremendous pressure from both sides, however the Rangers were unable to solve Bison keeper Emily Griffith for a third time. With their 3-2 victory over Northwestern, the Bison clinched the GAC regular season title with a record of 14-1-2.
