ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer continued to gain momentum Tuesday when they knocked off Southern Nazarene University in Bethany.
Karla Lopez,
Yazmin Gomez and
Brittany Cirnigliaro all found the back of the net for the Rangers as head coach
Craig Liddell's squad won their third straight game after a frustrating 0-7-1 start to the 2017 season.
Coming off back-to-back wins at home over Harding (2-1 W) and Oklahoma Christian (4-3 W), the Rangers travelled south to take on Great American Conference foe SNU. Looking to add to the Crimson Storm's troubling 6 game losing streak, Northwestern came out ready to go.
Karla Lopez had two shots in the first 10 minutes before her third of the game found the mesh to give Northwestern a 1-0 lead in the 18
th minute, with
Hudsyn Childs picking up the assist.
After consistent back-and-forth pressure from both teams, the Storm were able to tie the game at 1-1 just two minutes before halftime. A familiar position as of late, the Rangers found themselves in a great spot heading into the break with the game well within reach.
Yazmin Gomez notched her fourth goal of the season about seven minutes into the second half to retake the lead. Gomez and Lopez now find themselves tied for the team lead with four goals apiece.
With the lead and their sights set on another win, the black-and-red continued to press on, leading to Cirnigliaro's second tally of the season.
Goalie
Kylee Loustaunau made eight saves, improving her GAA to 3.03 while picking up her third career win.
