Halvorson Drops 22, Rangers Move to 3-0 After First Conference Win

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State men's basketball took down the Henderson State Reddies in convincing fashion Thursday night as the Rangers earned their third straight victory to start the season. Cody Halvorson led a strong offensive attack for the black-and-red as the senior notched 22 points including five three-pointers.

Four different Rangers scored in double-digits as head coach Shawn Dirden's squad shot a strong 48.3% from the field. Northwestern impressed on defense as well as the Rangers managed to hold the Reddies to just 37% shooting behind Brandon Green and Trey Johnson.

The Rangers pressured Henderson State early and were able to build a ten point lead just six minutes into the contest. HSU would bounce back to take a three point lead midway through the first, but the Rangers proved too much to handle.

Halvorson showed off his range once again as the Rangers most potent shooter last season had Percefull Fieldhouse on its feet on several occasions. Midway through the second half, the 6'0" senior fed Trey Johnson with a beautiful no-look pass on a fast break which Johnson finished with authority.

Shooting a cool 14-of-28 in the opening frame, the Rangers found their stride and at one point led by as many as 27.

The lone bright spot in this one for the Reddies was junior guard Josh Jones who tagged the Rangers for 20 points. HSU struggled from deep as they were just 3-for-13 from three-point territory.
