SHAWNEE, Okla. – Three consecutive set victories completed the comeback for the Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball team as they picked up a road win over Oklahoma Baptist, 3-2 (23-25,21-25,29-27,25-23,15-13).
Fresh off of clinching a berth in the Great American Conference tournament, the Ranger volleyball squad (19-9, 9-5 GAC) picked up a huge comeback victory over the Bisons of Oklahoma Baptist (16-13, 10-4 GAC). Three consecutive victories in the third, fourth, and fifth sets pushed the Rangers ahead.
Sophomore
Jennifer Eubanks continued to lead the offensive surge for the Rangers, posting a .302 attack percentage while knocking down 17 kills along the way. Junior
Hannah Williams also helped the Rangers surge ahead with 21 kills throughout the evening.
After two losses in the opening sets, Eubanks and Williams banded together and lead the troops past the Bisons in a crucial third set. Both teams traded blows all the way down to the wire before a block at the net by Eubanks and junior Brooklynn Hesson sealed the 29-27 victory for the Black-and-Red.
Hesson put together a double-double during the match with 15 kills and 10 digs while freshman Lauren Symington contributed to the offensive effort with a season-high 13 kills on 16 total attacks for a .661 average.
Down 23-21 in the late stages of the fourth set, head coach
Jeremy White's showed their grit and strung together four straight points to stay in the ball game with a 25-23 victory. Hesson, Eubanks, and Williams put down highlight-reel kills to officially turn the momentum solely into the hands of the Rangers.
That momentum allowed the Rangers to ride to a fifth set victory in which the Rangers once again came from behind to down the Bisons. Down 11-9 in the set, a key kill from senior
Liz Dwyer brought the deficit back to just one point before another Bisons point put them back ahead 12-10. A costly error for the home squad followed up by a kill from Eubanks evened the match up at 12-12.
After a kill from Oklahoma Baptist, Williams and Symington put down back-to-back kills, setting the stage for senior
Carley Geer to put across a service ace that sealed the match for the Black-and-Red.
Geer was relentless on the defensive end for the Rangers, picking up a season-high 33 digs in the match. Setter
Kiauna Clark totaled 52 assists on the evening to drive the Ranger offense.
Despite being outdone in the kill category with 70 kills compared to Oklahoma Baptist's 82, the Rangers grit and ability to score in the key points during the match proved to be the deciding factor.
The Rangers will return home for their final contest inside Percefull Fieldhouse against the Tigers of East Central on Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. The Rangers will honor their seniors on Senior Night while getting their final taste of home field advantage before they turn their attention to a rivalry match against Southwestern Oklahoma State and then the post-season tournament.
