ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team took the road for the first time this 2017 season, traveling to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M. The Rangers were on the unfortunate side of a 15-0 game.
Starting on the mound for the Rangers was
Bryce Tomlin, who was only able to go 1.1 innings in his second outing of the season, as the Buffs posted eight runs early on.
Following Tomlin on the mound, were three Ranger relievers,
Thomas Sander (1.0),
Tyler Havener (2.1) and
Baron Phillips (1.1).
Northwestern was one-hit in the game as
Greg Carrington was the lone Ranger to put the ball into play for a hit.
The Buffs began the scoring early, going up 2-0 in the bottom half of the first inning, but caught fire in the second as they were able to plate six runs in the frame, knocking out Tomlin in the process.
The black-and-red were able to get two men on in the top of the second on a walk of
Arturo Castro and a bunt single by Carrington, but were unable to convert.
The offensive struggle continued for the visitors throughout the rest of the contest while WTA&M collected seven more runs in the remaining five innings, to mercy-rule the Rangers.
