Rangers Fall Twice to OBU in Opening Doubleheader

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Baptist took the diamond for a doubleheader and came away with two losses, 10-5 and 8-0.

Jacob Long and Jorin Van Amstel led the charge at the plate for the Rangers on the evening as they were 3-for-7 and 2-for-5 respectively in the two games.

Game 1

Starting on the mound for the Rangers was Sean Rydell who completed four innings, while earning an out in the fifth. Rydell gave way to Brandon Nesseralla in the top of the fifth, following a five-run outing.

As an offensive unit, Northwestern gained nine basehits, where Long dominated at the plate, collecting three hits and scored two runs in the process. Van Amstel was also solid at the dish, going 2-for-3 in the game.

Leading off the top of the first, the visitors put their leadoff man aboard following a leadoff walk issued by Rydell, but the freshman would get out of the jam, following two strikeouts and a flyout to leave it at zeros.

Northwestern came up empty in the bottom of one, but in the very next at bat, the Bison plated their first two runs on an RBI groundout and a double to right field.

The top of the third wasn't much different than the second as OBU put up another run, making it a 3-1 game.

Northwestern wouldn't go away quietly however as the Rangers would put a four-spot on the Bison in the fourth inning. The inning would start off with a Carrington single, followed up by a single to the shortstop by Krokroskia. The third straight single in the inning plated the first run for the home team as Long was able to bring around Carrington for the first score.

The inning wasn't over for the hosts however as Delano laced a two-run bomb to make it a one-run lead at 4-3.

Oklahoma Baptist came up in the fifth inning and put three more on the board to make it a 6-4 lead. The Rangers would score just one more run in the game, while OBU posted four more runs to finish it off in 10-5 fashion.

Game 2

Bryce Tomlin was the game two starter for the Rangers and pitched five full innings before giving way to Collin Fouts in the sixth inning. Following Fouts on the mound was Baron Phillips who came away with two strikeouts and just one hit against him in his 1.2 innings. Finishing out the final out for the home team was Nick McKinney.

The Black-and-Red struggled at the dish in game two, as they were unable to collect any hits off the Bison hurler, who was near perfect on the mound for the visitors. As a matter of fact, the lone Ranger to reach base was Cooper Stanley who drew a walk in the contest.

OBU scored one run in the first inning, but that was all they could muster for the next three innings. The Bison scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning and finished their scoring in the sixth where they scored three more to finish off the game at 8-0.

UP NEXT

Northwestern and Oklahoma Baptist will finish off their series tomorrow morning, beginning at 11 a.m. at Myers Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., but possible inclement weather in the area, forced the move to a morning first pitch.
