Alva, OKLA. - Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball end their five game losing skid, defeating the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University (14-16, 7-7 GAC) in five sets [24-26, 25-19, 15-25, 26-24, 15-13].
In an exciting first set, the Bison took down the Lady Rangers 24-26; however, the black-and-red would retaliate and tie the match up, winning the second set 25-19.
Northwestern would go on a 5-0 run to finish off the second set, hitting a .243 clip on top of their 13 kills for the set.
Going into the third set the Bison would come out hot and gain a comfortable lead on the Lady Rangers, 6-13. Northwestern was not able to hold back the reigns of the Bison, as they continued to build up their lead and go up by as much 15 points and lead in sets, 1-2.
For what would be an important fourth set for the Lady Rangers, they stayed determined to not make mistakes down the stretch when it mattered most. Northwestern and Oklahoma Baptist would battle for the lead throughout the set, until the Bison score five straight points to give them match and set-point, 21-24.
A gritty Lady Ranger defense and a high-flying offense took over as the black-and-red scored five unanswered points of their own to come back and take the match to a fifth set, winning the fourth set 26-24.
In the final set Northwestern would put their final stamp on the match, showing their determination to win as they controlled the lead the whole set to win 15-13.
Junior Jennifer Eubanks had a team-high 18 kills and three blocks, as Senior Brooklynn Hesson and Freshman Kaydee Honeycutt followed up with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Texas native, Kaitlyn Robinson would post 56 helpers to the Lady Rangers victory.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball moves onto 16-12 on the season and 5-8 in conference play. As the season winds down, Northwestern has two more home games left, taking on Southeastern Oklahoma State University Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in Percefull Fieldhouse. They will finish off their home stretch facing rival Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
