LADY RANGERS BESTED BY OKLAHOMA BAPTIST

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer was back on the pitch at the Alva Rec Complex Thursday night as they hosted Great American Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist. The Rangers fell behind early after a penalty kick less than two minutes into the game and would go on to drop their third straight after a 4-0 decision.

Kiara Fontanilla got the start in goal for the red-and-black and made 10 saves in the effort despite being peppered with 26 shots (14 on goal). The freshman keeper was dealt a bad break less than two minutes into the game as a penalty kick was awarded to the Bison's Kerregan Edwards after the Rangers were called for a hand ball inside the box.

Kerregan beat a diving Fontanilla to in the top-right corner to give Oklahoma Baptist a 1-0 advantage.

Northwestern displayed a great deal of hustle all night long but were eventually overpowered when Bison forward Ruth King scored three goals to keep extending their lead. The Rangers managed 10 shots in the loss including two each from Alissa Carlson, Audrey Salas and Calvonis Prentice.

The Rangers' best scoring chance came in the 38th minute when Prentice started a scramble in front of the net with a shot on goal that was rebounded right to Kaley Whitworth, who sent her attempt wide to the right to end the threat.

Both teams battled the elements, fighting through brisk winds and a game-time temperature of 50 degrees.

Northwestern will look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host rival Southern Nazarene University at the Alva Rec Complex. That game is set for 12 p.m. (weather permitting) and will help kick-off NWOSU's 2018 Homecoming festivities.
