OFFENSE STRUGGLES IN LADY RANGER LOSS AT EAST CENTRAL, 77-56

ADA, Okla. – A cold second half for the Northwestern Oklahoma State University women's basketball team proved to be the difference as the Lady Rangers fell on the road at East Central, 77-56.

Northwestern's record moved to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Great American Conference play in the final game of the 2018 calendar year. The Lady Rangers will be back in action at home on Jan. 3 against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Muleriders.

The two squads battled with each other in the first half with the Lady Rangers trailing by just eight after the first 20 minutes of play. Both teams hit seven three pointers in the first half, including six different Lady Rangers with three-point baskets. Jade Jones was the lone Lady Ranger with multiple threes as she knocked down a pair.

When all was said and done after the final buzzer, 10 of the Lady Rangers' 15 made shots in the game came from behind the arc. Kalea King led the Lady Rangers with 16 points and Jones had 10 points.

East Central dominated the game on the boards with 46 rebounds to the Lady Rangers 27. Bailey Brown led Northwestern with five boards and Presley Payahsape pulled down four rebounds. Payahsape equaled her scoring average with seven points, Deja Beechum finished with six points and Brown, Jakeria Otey and McKenzie Billy added three points apiece.

Four Lady Tigers finished as double-figure scorers, led by Tia Williams with 16 points. Lakin Preisner had 13 points and a team high nine boards to just miss a double-double.

Northwestern forced the home team include 18 turnovers. King and Beechum each had two steals for seven of the Lady Rangers seven takeaways.

Despite keeping the game within reach, the third period proved to be the difference in the contest as the Lady Rangers went cold from the floor, converting just two of 11 attempts in the quarter. Northwestern finished the game shooting only 27.3-percent for the contest.
