Rangers Sweep in Big Halloween Game

ALVA, Okla.- Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers earned their fourth straight Great American Conference match from Southeastern Oklahoma State and improved their home record to an astounding 8-0 for the 2019 season. Despite SOSU's previous record it was not an easy sweep for Northwestern but rather a hard-fought win [25-22, 25-20, 25-22]. The Black-and-Red use attacks and more stellar defense as they out-blocked the Savage Storm 16-4.

Senior Kiauna Clark continued with another high kill mark of 12 kills for the Rangers. She earned a .296 hit percentage with two blocks. Kate Deterding had a dominant game with 8 kills of her own with three blocks. Jennifer Eubanks and Kaydee Honeycutt earned 7 while freshman Alexi Beach led the team with six total blocks. Kaitlyn Robinson earned 4 kills throughout the match with 28 assists in the match while Sydnee Miller tallied a team-leading 13 digs.

Northwestern jumped to an early lead with a five-point run to make the score 5-2. It was back-and-forth from there with the Savage Storm until back-to-back kills from Clark gave the Black-and-Red the momentum they were searching for. A late five point run from Southeastern made the set close but some key errors and a beautiful service ace from Miller gave the Rangers the first set 25-22.

As they rode the momentum from the last set, Northwestern snatched the lead early and never let go. Key attacks from Deterding and Claire Hodges gave way to a four-point final run to secure the second set easily 25-20.

The third set turned out to be a battle of wills as the Savage Storm jumped out to an early lead. Northwestern, however, would not be thwarted. A back-and-forth battle between the two teams allowed Percefull Fieldhouse to swing into full force on Halloween evening.

As the crowd got into the match the Black-and-Red offense began to show. Kills from Clark and Deterding proved to be huge as they took a 23-18 lead. A final service error from the Savage Storm brought the crowd to a roar as the Rangers snagged the last match 25-22.

The Black-and-Red are scheduled to hit the road in Bethany, Okla. for an away match against Southern Nazarene. The first serve will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
