Rangers Fall in Overtime

ADA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State continued conference play Saturday morning at East Central University, but would drop this game in double overtime by a final 2-1.

The Rangers looked to carry over some momentum after a big result against Southwestern, as they came out with a fast attack opening with four quick shots. However, the Tigers defended that well to setup their own attack grabbing the first goal of the game at the 8:11 mark in the first half.

Rangers and Tigers would each get a few possessions and trade shots back and forth. After Northwestern gained control missing three shots. Carlie Massingale earned a penalty kick at the 33:15 mark. The freshman midfielder would capitalize on the penalty kick and even the score at 1.

The game would stay even at 1 going into halftime.

Rangers would start the second half with an aggressive attack getting the first 6 of 7 shots to start the half. Besides that the teams would really just trade possession as neither team could really get anything going during the second half.

The overtime periods were back and forth until ECU grabbed the game winning goal in the 106th minute of the game.

NWOSU continues to have a balanced attack/scoring as the team now has three scorers Massingale, Alissa Carlson, and Whitney Blanchard all with three goals.

Northwestern and East Central would be even in total shots at 22, however the Rangers got out shot on goal 10-6. Alyssa Nunez led the team in shots with seven and with shots on goal at two, while Kaley Whitworth followed with four shots. Reyna Gonzalez saved 8 of 10 shots that she faced on goal.

Northwestern Oklahoma State will return to action Thursday for the Rangers first home conference game against Ouachita Baptist at 4PM. NWOSU record is now 3-4-1 (0-1-1) while Ouachita is currently 3-4 (1-1).
