RANGERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO CAMERON IN MIDWEEK CONTEST
Â
ALVA, Okla. –The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers took two tough loses to Cameron University late Monday afternoon.
Only four Rangers totaled two or more hits on the day. Freshman Kalie Johnson had a day at the plate with three hits and an RBI, going 2-for-4 in the first game. Alexa Moses went 2-for-2 in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring the game's only run from the Rangers.
Abby Detar (2), and Lindsey McElroy (2) were the only other two Rangers to get more than one hit, with Lindsey getting a double in the first game.
Alexus Bailey, Jayden Flowers, Kat Wells, and Taylor Russell each earned one hit on the day.
Game 1
The first game of the doubleheader was a tough match-up for the Rangers, but they were able to hold their own.Â
Both teams could not to get much going through the first inning. That changed in the top of the second inning when La Neve got on base with a lead-off walk. Madeline McIntyre went in to add her speed and pinch run and got all the way to second from a Sac bunt (Green) and a ground-out (K. Wells) but was unable to score.
Northwestern was able to hold Cameron until the bottom of the third inning when they were able to score from a solo homerun, giving them a 1-0 lead.
The Rangers quickly answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. K. Wells started the two-out rally with a single to right field. Alexus Bailey came into the game as a pinch hitter and followed with her own single through the left side to get K. Wells into scoring position. McElroy then sent an RBI single into right field causing the right fielder to misplay it, allowing K. Wells to score.
Karly Murray and the Rangers defense were able to get themselves out of a tough inning in the bottom of the fourth to prevent the Aggies from adding to their lead.
Unfortunately, in the bottom of the fifth inning Cameron was able to tack on another run on two hits to give them the 2-1 lead.
A lone single in the top of the sixth inning from pinch hitter Jayden Flowers, got the Rangers going. Shelbie Roberson came in to pinch run but was ultimately thrown out by the Aggies' catcher ending the rally.
Cameron pulled away in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring three runs off five hits, with another homerun.
The Rangers attempted to fight back in the top of the seventh getting a lead-off double from McElroy, which was closely followed by Morgan Kirk reaching base from being hit by a pitch. A wild pitch gave McElroy and Kirk forty more feet each placing both in scoring position but would be unable to cross home plate. The Aggies would take the win 5-1.Â
Game 2
The Rangers struggled offensively to match the opposing Aggies in the second half of the doubleheader.
Cameron jumped out to large lead in the bottom of the first inning, flashing their bats with five runs scored off four hits, giving them a 5-0 lead.
The second inning was much the same as the Aggies held the Rangers from reaching base, while scoring two more runs off another homerun in their half of the inning.
Moses came into the game for the Rangers behind the plate sending a single to center, giving the Black-and-Red their first baserunner of the game. Detar would follow with her own single through the right-side placing Moses in scoring position. Kalie Johnson earned her third hit on the day in RBI fashion, plating Moses and giving the Rangers their first run.
The Aggies came blazing back in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring five more runs on four hits, led by Callie Busby who hit her second homerun of the game and earned her fifth RBI.
Pinch hitter Taylor Russell gave the Rangers hope in the top of the fifth inning singling to right field and then reaching second on a wild pitch. Moses followed with her second hit of the game to center putting Russell on third. Three straight outs followed enabling the Aggies to take the second game in five innings, due to the run rule, with a score of 12-1
