RANGER PITCHING LIFTS NORTHWESTERN, LEADS TO SWEEP OF OUACHITA

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University baseball completed a sweep of Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon behind good pitching in a 4-1 victory in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

The duo of Matt Goetzen and Dillon Van Oosbree held the Tigers to just the single run on six hits. Goertzen got the start and the win in seven innings of work to move to 3-2 on the season. Van Oosbree earned his first save as a Ranger as he fanned three in two innings.

It was the fifth win in as many games this week for the Rangers, as well as the second sweep of a conference opponent this season. The Rangers improved to 17-11 overall and 7-10 in conference play.

Northwestern is 9-3 on the road this season.

The Rangers are back home Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. for a midweek contest against Rogers State. They will head to Hays, Kansas, for a game Wednesday at Fort Hays State, before returning to Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium for a three-game set against Harding on Friday and Saturday.

Carlos Andujar was the lone Ranger with multiple hits in the game. His second hit of the game put the Rangers on the board with a two-run single in the third.

Colton Whitehouse started the inning with a single and Daschal Johnson reached on an error before they crossed the plate on Andujar's single to make it 2-0.

Ouachita earned their lone run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth, the Tigers had an opportunity to tie the game with a runner at second, but Van Oosbree set a man down on strikeouts to get out of the jam and keep the difference at 2-1 Rangers.

The Rangers added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Brock Randels got on base with two outs after an error that allowed him to move on to second. After a drawn walked by Whitehouse, Luis Cintron singled in Randels.

Johnson followed Cintron with a single of his own to score Whitehouse and make it 4-1.

Van Oosbree sat the Tigers down in order in the ninth to seal the game and earn the save.
