RANGER PITCHING SETS UP LATE RUNS IN WIN AT NEWMAN

WICHITA, Kan. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University pitching allowed just four hits Tuesday afternoon at Newman as the Rangers snuck away from Wichita, Kansas, with a 2-1 win over the Jets.

Northwestern moved its record back to .500 this season with a 23-23 record after the victory. The Rangers will close the regular season this weekend at Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium with a three-game series against rival Southwestern Oklahoma State. First pitch of the series is Friday evening at 6 p.m.

Taking the ball to start the game on the bump was Dillon Van Oosbree. The junior pitched six solid innings with six strikeouts, no walks and one run allowed. Beau Britton took over in the seventh and Sean Rydell pitched the final two innings of perfect baseball.

Rydell was credited with the win after the Rangers scored their two runs in the top of the ninth. It was his first of the season.

The trio gave the pitching staff a game with four or fewer hits for just the third time this season.

Two of the four hits by the Jets came in the bottom of the first. However, after a leadoff single started things, Bryce Donovan threw out a runner trying to steal second, which proved to be costly as the next batter reached with a double.

Van Oosbree then set down 11 straight Jets until a double and a single got the home team on the board in the fifth. The Jets didn't have another runner reach base until the bottom of the eighth, but Donovan against threw out a runner to end a potential threat.

Northwestern's runs in the ninth inning came after Colton Whitehouse started the by reaching on an error and Jake Darrow followed with a single. With the runners standing on base, Greg Carrington laid down a bunt attempt. The speedy Carrington forced a bad throw that allowed both Whitehouse and Darrow to score and give the Rangers the lead and ultimately the victory.

Darrow was the lone Ranger with multiple hits in the contest. Daschal Johnson, Luis Cintron, Luis Mendoza, Justin Gordon and Carrington each reached base safely with a hit.

Johnnuelle Ponce had an outstanding 40 game on-base streak come to an end in the game.
