Rangers Drop Tough Match to Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University faced a tough opponent in Great American Conference Oklahoma Baptist University. The Bison are 11-3 with two of their three loses coming from five-set matches. The Rangers battled throughout the match but eventually took the loss 0-3 [21-25, 13-25, 15-25].

Most of the Black-and-Reds offense stemmed from their upper classmen. Jennifer Eubanks had another fantastic day as she earned herself a team high eight kills in three sets with a .316 hit percentage. Kaydee Honeycutt also had 8 kills as she also led the team in digs with 12. Kaitlyn Robinson led the team with 22 assists on the night.

The Rangers came to play in set one as the two teams traded points for most of the beginning half of the match. Northwestern snatched the first three points with back-to-back kills from Eubanks and another from Kate Deterding. Unfortunately, the Bison took advantage of multiple Northwestern errors, while also holding strong along the net to take the first match 21-25.

The Black-and-Red continued to struggle to find a rhythm in the second set as Oklahoma Baptist slowly began to pull away. A few key attacks from Eubanks and Honeycutt kept the distance short until the latter half of the set. Five straight kills from the Bison secured the set two win with a score of 13-25.

Oklahoma Baptist came rolling in on their momentum from the last set and took a quick 11-2 lead over the Rangers. Two different 3-0 runs from the Rangers, under the leadership of Eubanks and Kiauna Clark, was not enough to hold the Bison in place. Another 4-0 run allowed OBU to take the third and final set with a score of 15-25.

Northwestern will play their second Great American Conference match-up of the week at home as they face Southern Nazarene University Thursday evening in Alva, Okla. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
