EDMOND, Okla. - Northwestern looked to bounce back Saturday afternoon but was unable to get anything going as they dropped Saturday's contest 16-3 in eight innings against Central Oklahoma.
Bryce Donovan added three more walks to his early season resume reaching base in 6 of 8 plate appearances with six walks.
Rangers would have six hits on the day one each from Jake Darrow, Parker Base, Billy Rogers, Colton Whitehouse, Yugo Hamakawa, and Brett Erickson
Grant French took his first loss of the season as he started the game going two and two-thirds innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits, he walked two.
The Red-and-Black trailed early after giving up three runs on a three-run homerun by Central Oklahoma's Philip Scott making the game 3-0.
The game would remain that way until the third inning after a Erickson and Donovan walk, Parker Base would drive in Erickson from a double to left. The response from Central Oklahoma was fast as they added to their lead in the bottom of the inning tacking on two more runs with an RBI triple and single to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Rangers were ready to respond as in the fourth they would close the gap once again as with the bases loaded Darrow and Donovan would walk to bring in two runs making it a 5-3 game. Once again the Bronchos wasted no time responding in the bottom of the inning adding three runs to their total on back to back doubles bringing in a total of three runs extending their lead to 8-3.
UCO controlled the game from that point on as they rallied for three more in the fifth extending their lead to 11-3, biggest hit being a triple scoring a run.
After adding another run in the seventh creating a 12-3 lead, Central Oklahoma would close the game out in the eighth. After loading the bases to start the inning Bennett Laurence hit a grand slam am to extend and finish off their lead 16-3.
With the defeat Saturday afternoon the Rangers fall to 0-2 to start the season. Northwestern will be back in action early Sunday Morning with first pitch starting at 10am as the Rangers will look for their first win on the season.
Rangers will host Central Oklahoma in their home opener on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00PM.
