Northwestern prepares for Crimson Storm and Tigers this Week

Alva Okla. - The Lady Rangers are 1-1 on this current three game home stretch with a win against Arkansas-Monticello and a loss to Southern Arkansas this previous week. The Rangers will open the week with Southern Nazarene as Northwestern will look to avenge their loss (67-53) earlier in the year back in November. The second game of the week will be against East Central Saturday afternoon as the Lady Rangers will look to complete the season sweep after winning back in December 76-68. 

Northwestern currently sits 10-10 on the season overall with a 6-8 conference record sitting ninth in the conference trailing Southern Arkansas by two game for the last playoff spot. 

The Lady Rangers are led by head coach Tasha Diesselhorst who is in her fourth season with Northwestern who led Northwestern to their first conference tournament appearance since joining the GAC last year. She currently holds a 44-64 record with Northwestern. 

The Red-and-Black are led by senior Kalea King and junior Bailey Brown. King comes into the week leading the team in scoring with 14.6 with Brown not trailing by much at 14.5 points per game. Brown lead the team in rebounding at 8.0 rebounds while King follows her with 5.3 boards per game. Kyleigh Leverich leads Northwestern with 73 assists on the year followed by King at 47. 

Southern Nazarene (13-5, 10-4):

Southern Nazarene travels to Northwestern with a 13-5 record and a 10-4 overall record. They currently sit tied for 1st in the GAC. The Crimson Storm come into the game on a two game win streak. . 

SNU is led by head coach Trent May who has won six GAC coach of the year awards. He comes in with a 339-166 record with the Crimson Storm. 

Southern Nazarene, leads the series history 7-14 in the 21 meetings this season. Northwestern has won three of the last four meetings but Southern Nazarene took the one earlier this year in Bethany Oklahoma. 

Crimson Storm is led by Jaycee Soap averaging 13.3 points per game followed by Sonia Sarda at 12.1, and their third double scorer Alexus Jones at 11. Jones leads the team with seven per game followed by Kennedy Gillete at 5.8.Sarda leads the team in assists with 94 for 5.2 a game. 

In the first match-up, Southern Nazarene won 67-53. Brown led all scorers with 20 points in the game. Nazarene had a little more spread out with Kennedy Gillette leading them with 14 as one of four double digit scorers.

East Central University (4-16, 2-12)

 

Northwestern will travel to Ada to take on East Central Saturday afternoon. The Tigers come in 2-12 in conference play which has them sitting 10th in the conference.

 East Central is led by head coach Matt Cole who has been leading the Tigers since 2014. He holds a 71-68 record over his five seasons with the program, with last season being his best at 21-8. 

The Tigers hold the lead in the history between the two programs as Northwestern trails 5-10. Northwestern won the game early in the season back in December 76-68. East Central has won two of the last three.

ECU comes in with a balanced attack having four players in double figures. The first one in Sam Schwab 11.9, Hannah Ladd at 11.7, Kendal Schulte 11.2, and finally Madison Rehl. Schwab leads the team in rebounding at 8.4 per game followed by Madison Nickens. Rehl leads the team in 53 assists for East Central. 

This will be the second matchup of the season. The first was back on December 16th where Northwestern won 76-68.Hillary Hurst led Northwestern with 17 points in the game followed by Brown at 16.
