Alva, Okla- The Lady Rangers were set to take on a tough opponent in Southern Nazarene Thursday evening in Percefull Fieldhouse. Northwestern would drop their second straight game. The Crimson Storm forced 22 turnovers, to use 32 points off those turnovers to complete the season sweep over the Lady Rangers by a final 80-41.
The Red-and Black would have two double-digit scorers, first in Kalea King dropping 16 points in the game followed by Bailey Brown finishing the night with 10 points. King led the team in rebounding with six rebounds followed by Brown with four.
Brown would keep the Lady Rangers afloat at the beginning of the game scoring the first five points for Northwestern. King would follow with six straight of her own to even the game at 11. Southern Nazarene would answer with a 10-0 run to build a double-digit lead in the opening quarter. Presley Payahsape would hit a three to end the run right before the end of the quarter. The Crimson Storm would take a seven-point lead into the 2nd quarter.
Southern Nazarene would waste no time in continuing this run as they would open the second quarter on a 19-3 run to open a 40-17 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Crimson Storm would not allow Northwestern to get much closer. The Lady Rangers were able to get a later basket in the half but would trail at the break by 21 points.
Southern Nazarene would lead 44-23 over the Lady Rangers at halftime.
The second half would start the same way with the Crimson Storm starting the half on an 11-1 run to build a 29 point lead. SNU would grow the lead out to as many as 34 during the third quarter. Lady Ranger's history would be made late in the third quarter by Brown. Brown's layup with 50 seconds left in the quarter was her 1,000th point here at Northwestern. She joins 12 other members in this such club.
Northwestern would open the fourth with points, however, the Crimson Strom would later answer with an 8-0 run in the fourth to open their largest lead at 39 which they would later finish the game with that margin of victory. Southern Nazarene would finish the game with a balanced scoring attack with five different players in double-digit scoring with their leader in Alexus Jones at 13.
The Crimson Storm would seal the victory over the Lady Rangers by a final score of 80-41.
Along with forcing 22 turnovers, Southern Nazarene took advantage of the paint winning the points in the paint 42-18.
The loss drops the Lady Rangers to 10-11 on the season and 6-9 in Great American Conference play. The Red-and-Black will now trail to Ada, Okla., to take on East Central University Saturday afternoon at 1 pm as the Lady Rangers look to snap the two-game losing streak.
