Johnson reaches the tip first and forces it to Kes Reeves after jumping higher than Bethany Franks of Southwestern to win the tip-off. Brown fired first on the scoreboard by rolling in a layup, but Macy Gore of SWOSU quickly answered back with a three-pointer assisted by Makyra Tramble. Reeves rattles in a jumper and Brown immediately steals the ball from M. Gore to snatch her only steal of the night.

M. Gore hits another three to put the Bulldogs up 6-4 until Johnson tosses in a layup from underneath to tie the game at what ended up being the only tie of the contest. Tramble puts Southwestern back up by three with a deep shot from outside until Jarah Whitfield puts in a layup to cut the Bulldogs' lead to one.

M. Gore drains her third three-pointer of the evening to put SWOSU up by four. Two free throws from Lauren Ramey increases the Bulldogs' lead by six, but Brown cuts it back to four after rolling in a score from down under.

Southwestern stayed in control after gaining a 12-point-lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs led the remainder of the game.
