Lady Rangers Drop Road Game at SNU

BETHANY, Okla. – It was a tough night for the Lady Rangers after low scoring figures allowed the Crimson Storm to control the game and defeat Northwestern, 90-66, in Bethany. 
 
The Red-and-Black move to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in Great American Conference play. 

Northwestern finished with two players in double-digit scoring figures: Kaylee Jo Neeley and Mya Johnson
 
Neeley was one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double, she finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. She finished 7-of-9 shooting inside, 1-of-2 from outside and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
 
Johnson finished 4-of-10 shooting from inside and 2-of-4 from free throw range. She posted 10 points, six rebounds, an assist and a block.  
 
Lizzie Shephard and Scout Frame finished with eight points apiece.
 
Bailey Brown grabbed eight rebounds, scored six points and passed on two assists. 
 
Jarah Whitfield chipped in five points and two assists.

FIRST QUARTER:
Brown answered first in the matchup after she grabbed her own rebound and rolled in a layup. Cassandra Awatt for the Crimson Storm fired back with a deep three pointer, followed by another quick score from inside.  Kes Reeves tossed the ball to Shephard from behind the arc for three and tallied her first assist of the game after Shephard drained the shot. Two pairs of perfect free throws from Johnson and Whitfield, plus an inside score from Neeley put the Lady Rangers in control by four with five minutes left in the first quarter. Whitfield rattled in a three pointer at the one-minute mark but SNU led Northwestern by four to end the first 10 minutes of play. (22-18, SNU) 

SECOND QUARTER:
Neeley opened the second quarter with a made free throw and an outside score that was assisted by Shephard. Nefer Leon of SNU tallied a three-point-play but S. Frame quickly answered back with a three-pointer to tie the scores at 25 apiece. With a minute to go in the first half, Kiana Walker rattled in a jumper, but the Crimson Storm finished the first half ahead by seven, 40-33, SNU.
 
THIRD QUARTER: 
S. Frame drilled a three-pointer to open the second half, followed by an inside score from Johnson to cut the SNU lead to only two points. The Crimson Storm eventually found a rhythm and went up 13 on the Lady Rangers to end the third quarter. (66-53, SNU)

FOURTH QUARTER: 
Southern Nazarene controlled the entire fourth quarter, scoring 14 times. The Lady Rangers were unable to overcome SNU's second half surge. The Red-and-Black trailed the Crimson Storm 66-90. 
 
 
CRIMSON STORM: 

Southern Nazarene controlled the game with four players that finished scoring in double figures: Alexus Jones, Kennedy Gillette, Emily Monaghan and Cassandra Awatt. 
 
Jones led SNU shooting 8-20 from inside, 3-of-8 from outside and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She racked up 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. 
 
Gillette finished with 15 points, one steal, one assist and one block. She grabbed four rebounds and shot a perfect 3-for-3 from deep. Gillette finished 5-of-6 from inside and 2-of-4 from free throw range. 
 
Awatt rounded out the double-digit scoring leaders with 11 points, five rebounds, one steal and two assists. 
 
Abby Niehues led both teams in blocks with four.
