Lady Rangers Fall Short Against Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Northwestern Women's Basketball fell short in Durant after Southeastern Oklahoma State outscored the Lady Rangers, 76-63.
 
The Red-and-Black ended the match up with three players in double scoring figures. 
 
Mya Johnson led the Lady Rangers with 17 points, one steal, one assist and seven rebounds. She finished shooting 7-for-9 from inside and 3-for-7 from the free-throw line. 
 
Scout Frame posted 12 points an assist and three rebounds. S. Frame drained 2-of-3 from deep. 
 
Bailey Brown finished with four assists, eight rebounds and 11 points. Brown stole the ball from the Savage Storm three times and rattled in 5-of-7 from field goal range. 
 
Kaylee Jo Neeley put up nine points, eight rebounds, one assist and a steal. 
 
Lizzie Shephard scored seven points and assisted two teammates. 
 
Kes Reeves grabbed six rebounds and scored two points while assisting two Lady Rangers. 
 
Josena Frame finished with five points and two rebounds. J. Frame also had two assists.

FIRST QUARTER
Northwestern fired first on the scoreboard after Johnson drained a jumper in the opening minute of the contest. Kamryn Cantwell answered back with a layup to put the Savage Storm on the boards. Shephard hit the first deep score of the game at the 5-minute mark to put the Red-and-Black up by one on Southeastern (7-6). Cantwell rattled in SOSU's first three pointer, followed by another deep score that was tossed in by Haiden Williams. S. Frame scored from outside with a minute left to go but after another three pointer from Southeastern, the Savage Storm were able to keep a five point lead on top of Northwestern to end the first quarter. (19-14, SOSU) 

SECOND QUARTER
J. Frame rattled in a three-point-play to open the second period, followed by a layup from Neeley, and jumpers from S. Frame and Johnson. Briley Moon put in back-to-back layups and Cantwell swished two free throws to go up seven on the Lady Rangers. Shephard stole the ball from Williams with two minutes to go in the first half and S. Frame drained a deep score to cut the SOSU lead to just three. Shephard pulled up for two to cut the lead to just one point, she was successful but two made free throws from the Savage Storm were able to keep Southeastern alive at halftime. (33-30, SOSU)
 
THIRD QUARTER
The Savage Storm were able to amass a 14-point lead throughout the third quarter. Johnson put in two free throws and an inside score, Reeves put a pair of free throws, S. Frame rattled in a jumper and Neeley scored from down under and deep outside. Brown was able to score a layup with under a minute to go in the quarter, but Katie Branam fired in a three pointer to stay up on the Lady Rangers by 14. (59-45, SOSU) 
 
FOURTH QUARTER
S. Frame scored first in the final minutes of play. With five minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Lady Rangers trailed by 16 until an 11-0 scoring run from the Red-and-Black allowed Northwestern to only trail Southeastern by five with three minutes left to go. Unfortunately, the Lady Rangers remained scoreless the last few minutes of play and allowed the Savage Storm to finish on top 76-63.

The Savage Storm improves to 6-4 overall and 6-4 in the GAC. 
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State finished with three players scoring double-digit points. 
 
Moon scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and assisted three Southeastern players. She also blocked a Lady Ranger and stole the ball from Northwestern one time. Moon finished shooting 6-of-9, 2-of-2 from outside and 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. 
 
Cantwell finished with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. She stole the ball four times and assisted her teammates four times. 
 
Williams rounded out the double-digit Southeastern scorers with 10 points and two rebounds. 
 
NEXT UP: The Lady Rangers will be back in action at Percefull Fieldhouse on Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. against the Oklahoma Baptist Bison.
