Northwestern Falls in Match to the Bison Thursday

Shawnee Oklahoma- The Rangers were back in action Thursday night, looking to extend their three-game winning streak on the road against Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison and Rangers battled through the opening set before the Bison would win and carry the momentum to a 3-0 match win over the Rangers. 

Northwestern drops to 9-17 on the season and 4-9 in Great American Conference play while Oklahoma Baptist improves to 17-3 on the year and 10-2 in Great American Conference. 

Addison Wimmer led the team with 17 kills in the evening, with Kaydee Honeycutt and Carmae Jones with nine and seven kills in the evening. Abby Davis led the team in assists with 19, Abigail Burns at 17 assists, and Parks with four. Parks led the team with 24 digs, with Wimmer at 12 and Honeycutt with eight. 

"It may not be a win in the books, but this was a very well-played match for us tonight. I think we are peaking now!"

SET 1: 

Jessica Thompson opened the scoring with a kill to give the Ranger a 1-0 lead. The Bison took their first lead at 4-3 before the opening set was even more of a battle trading point for point forcing 12 ties in the opening set. Leatherhead of Oklahoma Baptist would have three straight kills to push the Bison back in front at 13-11 in set one. Northwestern would fight back, though with three consecutive kills from Wimmer pushed the Rangers back in front at 14-13. A block from Ravyn Burns and Thompson would move the Rangers' run to 5-0. The Bison would respond, though, bringing the set to its next tie at 18-18 following a Ranger error. Oklahoma Baptist would use a late 4-0 push to take a 23-21 lead before closing the set out with a 25-22 victory over the Rangers in the opening set. 

SET 2: 

In the second set, Wimmer opened the scoring with a kill to take the early lead. Like the opening set, the second one was a competitive battle featuring lead changes and consistently tied scorers. Following a Davis serve to feature a Bison error, the Rangers evened the score at 8-8. The teams would continue to battle and trade points following kills from Burns and Jones, giving a tie score at 15-15. The Bison then would gain some separation with a 3-0 run for an 18-15 lead over the Rangers. Northwestern would follow with a 4-0 run later in the set to tie the second set at 21-21, including two kills from Honeycutt. The set was tied at 22-22 before the Bison closed out the second set with a 25-22 victory. 

SET 3: 

A kill from Thompson and Jones put the Rangers on the board first before the Bison went on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 4-3 before going up 7-3 in the third set. Oklahoma Baptist and the Rangers would trade points, with OBU holding the four-point lead at 13-9 all the way to 17-13. The Rangers would come back to tie the set at 18-18 following three straight kills from Wimmer. Oklahoma Baptist held a 20-19 lead over the Rangers before going on a 5-0 run to close out the set at 25-19 and win the match 3-0 over the Rangers. 

Northwestern will be back in action at home in Percefull Fieldhouse Tuesday evening with a 7:00 PM start against Southern Nazarene for a Great American Conference matchup.
