Rangers Fall in Semifinal Match to Oklahoma Baptist

Weatherford Okla – The Rangers number three seed traveled to Weatherford, OK for the semifinal match game against number two seed Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday morning. The Rangers fell to the Bison 5-2 after a strong second half attack from the Bison.

The Rangers end the 2021 season 11-6-2 (6-5-2 in GAC) as the Bison continue their season on Saturday 12-5-1 (11-2 in GAC) to play in the championship game against Southwestern.

The Bison outshot the Rangers 21-11 with having 10 shots being on target. Senior goalkeeper Reagan Allen was faced with 10 shots, ended with five saves.

Cynthia Armas led the Rangers with two shots throughout the game, both being on target. Tiara Campbell had two shots throughout the game resulting in one goal. Isabella Mcmillan had two shots throughout the game with one being on target. Abby Nunez had one shot on target which resulted in a goal.

The Bison got on the board first early in the first 13 minutes of play with a goal by Hannah White, assisted by Abigail Parker.

The Rangers answered back seven minutes later with a goal by Nunez. Kailani Kealoha crossed in the ball from a corner kick and Campbell laid the ball back to Nunez who was on top of the box and kicked the ball into the upper right-hand side of the net.

Five minutes later, Bison player Tori Kitchel scored their second goal to regain the lead for the Bison.

In the 34th minute of play, the Rangers scored off of another corner kick with Armas finding Campbell who placed the ball into the back of the net.

The Rangers and the Bison went into halftime tied 2-2 after a balanced first half from both teams.

The second half was a slow start for the Rangers as the Bison got an early second half goal from Kitchel. The goal by Kitchel regained the lead for Oklahoma Baptist pushing the score to 3-2.

The Bison scored their fourth in the 64th minute of play to push their lead to 4-2 and folowed that with a goal in the 76th minute of play in the second half to give the Bison thier largest lead at 5-2. The Rangers continued to fight until the final whistle was blown but would fall to the Bison 5-2 in the semifinal match.

"In the first half we gave up 2 goals but responded both times with goals of our own. That shows the tremendous character and resilience that our team has.

Credit to Oklahoma Baptist as they played a very strong second half to put us away, but that doesn't diminish what our team accomplished this season.

We are incredibly proud of our team, and we are losing 4 seniors that we will dearly miss, but we know that even brighter days are ahead for Ranger Soccer" said head coach Alex Piekarski.
