Lady Rangers Conclude Opening Weekend at the MIAA/GAC Challenge

Edmond, Oklahoma- The Lady Rangers concluded their opening weekend in the MIAA/ GAC challenge with Saturday afternoon's game against Northeastern State University. The Riverhawks used a big third quarter out, scoring the Rangers by 14 to help lead Northeastern to a 73-56 victory over the Rangers.

The loss drops Northwestern to 0-2 on the season with the two losses over the weekend.

The Red-and-Black were led by Bailey Brown with a game-high 18 points, followed by Scout Frame with 14 points and Kinsey Neiderer with 12 points. Frame led the Rangers with nine rebounds, followed by Brown and Camille Thomas with five rebounds each. Carly Craig finished with a team-high six assists, followed by Brown with two.

Northeastern opened the scoring with a quick three points before Northwestern jumped out fast to start the game. The Rangers followed the three with 13 straight points started by an S.Frame layup and Neiderer three-pointer to take their first lead of the game at 5-3. The two Brown foul shots would cap the Rangers' run at 13-3. The Northwestern defense did not allow a point for six straight minutes in the opening quarter following the early Northeastern three. The Rangers would force three turnovers in that span. Northwestern continued to lock up on defense, only allowing five points with two minutes left in the opening quarter. A Brown layup would help the Rangers take a 17-11 lead at the end of the opening quarter to push the Rangers in front by six to end the opening quarter.

Northeastern jumped out fast in the second quarter hitting back-to-back threes to open the quarter on a 6-0 run and tie the score at 17-17 to start the second. Brown would respond though for the Rangers with six straight points of her own to push the Rangers out in front 23-17. The teams would continue to battle through the opening half as Northeastern cut the Rangers lead down to one at 29-28 with four minutes remaining in the half. The Rangers would take a 35-32 lead going into halftime following two foul shots from Brown, in which she would make both.

The Riverhawks opened the scoring in the second half with a three-pointer to tie the game up 35-35. With the Riverhawks following that with a small run to take a 41-40 lead over the Rangers, they would go on 10 of the following 13 points to take a 52-44 lead over the Red-and-Black. In the closing seconds of the third quarter, a three-pointer pushed the Riverhawks to their first double-digit lead of the afternoon at 59-48 to close the 3rd quarter with an 11 point lead.

Northeastern scored first in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 13 points following a layup. The score was 61-50 with eight minutes to play as the Riverhawks would push their lead to 23 in the final quarter following a 12-0 run up until the four-minute mark in the fourth quarter. Northeastern held a 73-53 lead with a minute and a half to play as the Rangers closed the game with the final three points to fall 73-56 Saturday afternoon.

Northwestern will host their home opener Tuesday evening with tip-off set for 5:30 as the Rangers welcome Kansas Christian College that evening for a non-conference game.
