Northwestern Falls in Game Three to Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Northwestern drops the series finale to Henderson State on Saturday, falling 12-4 in five innings in Arkadelphia at Dee White Field.
 
The loss moves the Rangers to 7-13 overall and 2-12 in the Great American Conference.
 
Allison Zanca had three hits in the game, while Regan Burleson, Hannah Howell and Jayden Solberg had one apiece.
 
Solberg would drive in three runs, while Burleson and Zanca each tallied an RBI.
 
The Red-and-Black would get out in front 2-0 in the top of the first. Howell would lead off with a single, Lindsey McElroy was then hit by a pitch, Kalie Johnson would move the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Burleson would drive in Howell with a single through the right side, then Zanca would hit an infield single to third that scores McElroy.
 
Henderson State would answer in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game 2-2.
 
McElroy would get the inning started by getting hit by her second pitch of the game in the third. Solberg would smack a two-run bomb to right field, giving Northwestern a 4-2 lead.
 
The Reddies would get three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead. 
 
Henderson would add six runs in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 11-4. 
 
HSU would get a run in the bottom of the sixth to finish the game 12-4. 
 
The Rangers would rally in the seventh, McElroy would reach on an error to start the inning, then a pitch hit Johnson, a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, Solberg would hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored McElroy. Burleson would single back up the middle. The rally would come to an end with a game-ending double play.
 
Howell would get the start throwing four innings, allowing nine runs, six earned on eight hits. 
 
Allie Hufford would come in to throw an inning in relief, allowing two runs on four hits.  
 
Alexia Taylor came in to throw the final inning, allowing a hit. 
 
The Red-and-Black will return home to face Ouachita Baptist on Friday, March 26, in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
