Rangers Fall 1-0 to East Central Tuesday

 ALVA, Okla.- Northwestern Oklahoma State soccer fell to East Central Tuesday afternoon 1-0 on a goal scored in the 63rd minute by Tanja Baubock. The Tuesday game was the final regular-season game before the Great American Conference playoffs starting on April 10th. 

The Rangers shot leader was Alyssa Nunez, with four shots on goal for four of the Red-and-Black 11 shots on goal. Rachel Bailey finished the game with two, Abby McLaughlin Carlie Massingale, Natalie Leathers, Trinity Williams, and Aubrey Hoskins, each finishing the afternoon with one on goal. Clare Merrigan had one shot in the match along with Callie Haneborg

Reyna Gonzalez finished the afternoon with eight saves on nine shots faced by the Rangers goalkeeper against East Central. 

The Tuesday battle started defensively as the Rangers or Tigers would not allow a shot attempt in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Haneborg got the first shot off in the game following a Tigers foul giving the Rangers possession on a free-kick. The shot from Haneborg would miss high. 

Gonzalez would make her first save of the afternoon in the 18th minute following a shot by the East Central attack from Butler but Gonzalez stopped in the center. The Tigers attack would stick with the pressure taking two more shots within a second off the first one but both of these would miss wide of the net. 

The defense took over once again as another shot would not be taken for the 15 minutes of game time before the Rangers forward Nunez would take the game's next three shots all on goal which would be save by Nance the Tigers goalkeeper. 

The halftime score stood 0-0 with the Rangers leading in shots on goal 3-1, however, the Tigers led 5-4 on shots overall. East Central had six fouls to a Rangers three, with either team having a corner kick try. 

East Central would have the first scoring chance of the second half with their first corner kick opportunity at the 49:17 mark of the game. The Tigers' attack would get a shot off by Gonzalez ended their scoring chance with a save setting up a Red-and-Black shot opportunity which would be saved by the Tiger goalkeeper. 

The Rangers had their corner kick opportunity at the 58:29 mark to setup up a scoring chance that the East Central goalkeeper would make from a McLaughlin shot. Rangers would keep the attack going with two more shots from Merrigan and Williams but were not able to get the back of the net. 

East Central flipped the field at the 61st minute setting up their attack. ECU would have three shots that Gonzalez would save two of them before Baubock was able to find the back of the net with a left-footed kick to the right side of the goal. 

The Tigers kept the pressure high for the first moments following the goal with another shot but Gonzalez would save to the left-center of the net. The goal-kick following set up a scoring opportunity that was closed to finding the back of the next but the Tigers defense made a team save. 

Northwestern, had a free-kick following a Tiger foul that set up two shots looking to even the score. On a breakaway following the free-kick the Tigers goalkeeper was able to make a save to the right side that the Rangers tried to score off the following corner kick but the ECU defense again with another team defensive save right in front of the goal. 

Hoskins had the final shot on goal for the Rangers at the 80th minute saved by the Tigers goalkeeper as Nace would pick up a shutout on the afternoon. East Central would hold on for the 1-0 victory. The Rangers would finish with 11 shots on goal to the Tigers 9, East Central with 15 shots to the Rangers 13. The Rangers had three corner kicks to the Tigers two. 

The Rangers fall to 0-5-1 during the spring season. The Tuesday game was the final regular-season match for the Red-and-Black as will return to action for the opening round of the Great American Conference playoffs. The opponent is still to be determined.
