Northwestern Stops Skid Tuesday Against Southwestern

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern rallies to score seven runs in the final two frames to beat rival Southwestern 11-10 in walk-off fashion on Tuesday at the Ranger Softball field at the Alva Recreation Complex.
 
The Red-and-Black improves to 8-19 overall and 3-10 in the Great American Conference.
 
Northwestern connected for five hits as a team. They were spread out with Mesa Gann, Alayna Georgio, Taylor Graham, Kalie Johnson and Morgan La Neve, each picking up a hit.

Jayden Solberg and Graham each recorded two RBI, while Gann, Georgio and Zanca drove in one.

 
Hannah Howell would start lasting 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out three. Kameron Ryer would come in to face two batters and not record an out in relief. Allison Zanca would come in to throw 2.1 innings surrendering three runs on two hits while striking out one. Alexia Taylor would secure the win, pitching the seventh inning, allowing a run on a hit, with a strikeout.
 
The Bulldogs would get two runs in the top of the first. Jewell Lee would score on a passed ball, then Breanna Simmons would score on a Jordyn Wadley double. 
 
Wadley would single to right in the third inning, driving in Simmons and giving SWOSU a 3-0 lead. 
 
The Rangers got on the board in the bottom of the third. Johnson would reach on an error, then Gann would double down the left field line, followed by a Solberg sac fly to right, trimming the score to 3-1. 
 
In the fourth inning, Southwestern would get three runs to take a 6-1 lead Lee would drive in Jordan Collins with a sacrifice fly to right. Kenedi Morelock would single to short scoring Dustie Pence, then Simmons would single to right to score Morelock.
 
Northwestern would Andrew back in their half of the inning, Kelsey Bushey would start the inning reaching on an error, then La Neve would walk. Lindsey McElroy would get on by an error in right field, Bushey would come in to score on the error. Johnson would get hit by the pitch to load the bases, Gann was also hit by the pitch, forcing home La Neve, the McElroy would score on a groundout. After four innings, the score was in favor of the visitors 6-4.
 
Hannah Franklin would hit a three-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning for Southwestern stretching the lead out to 9-4. 
 
La Neve would get the Red-and-Black going in the sixth with a leadoff single, McElroy reached base on balls, then Johnson would single to right to load the bases. Gann would force home La Neve by getting walked. Solberg would get walked for the second time, scoring McElroy, Zanca would also get walked scoring Johnson. Graham would single down the left field line to score Gann and Solberg to tie the game 9-9, heading to the final frame. 
 
Southwestern would retake the lead in the seventh off a Simmons solo homerun. 
Gann, Solberg and Zanca would load the bases at the bottom of the seventh with two-outs, each reaching base on balls. Ariel Forsyth would score on a wild pitch, pinch-running for Gann to tie the game back at 10-10. Georgio would then end the game in walk-off style with an RBI single to left field. 
 
The Rangers will return to action this weekend when they travel to Shawnee to face Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game series starting Friday at 5 pm.
