Rangers Volleyball Splits Their Two Matches on Final Day of Tournament

Pittsburg, Kansas- Northwestern Oklahoma State concluded the Pitt State tournament on Saturday evening with two matches, the first one going against Truman State, where the Rangers earned a 3-0 victory in match one. In the second match, the Rangers went up against the University of Sioux Falls, where the Rangers fell 3-0 in match two of the day as they split their final day in the Pitt State tournament. Addison Wimmer was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight week. 
 

Match 1: 

The Rangers were led by Kaydee Honeycutt in kills with 13, along with Addison Wimmer having 13 on the day as well, followed by Courtney Russell with five. Ravyn Burns led the Rangers with the team's only two blocks of the match. Abby Davis led in assists with 16, followed by Abigail Burns with 10. Honeycutt and Wimmer led with 12 and 10 digs for the match. 
 

Set 1:

Rangers jumped out fast in the opening set, scoring six of the opening eight points following a four-nothing run led by Tarra Parks with back-to-back service aces. The Rangers would use another 4-0 run, this time led by a kill from Honeycutt and Russell followed by a service ace from Abby Davis, building the Red-and-Black a 15-8 lead over the Bulldogs. Northwestern would continue to carry through the opening set as the Rangers went on a 4-0 run to take a double-digit lead at 22-11 following a kill from Wimmer. The Rangers would close out the set with a 25-13 victory to take the match's opening set.
 

Set 2:

Northwestern carried the momentum into the second set, opening the set with the first two points on kills from Honeycutt before the Rangers would score the first five of six points of the set. Madison Dehlinger would have back-to-back kills for the Rangers to open up a 9-3 lead in the second set. Truman would get back as close as four in the set. A 7-1 run for the Rangers would open a 19-8 lead for the Rangers after Courtney Russell would have three kills in that run for the Red-and-Black. The Bulldogs would try to respond with a 6-0 run bring the Rangers lead to 19-14. Northwestern would close the set on a 4-0 run win the second set 25-17 following back-to-back kills by Wimmer and Burns. Rangers would win the set 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 
 

Set 3: 

Truman opened up the third set with three of the first four points and would take a 10-4 lead following a 6-0 run after the Rangers tied the set at 4-4. Two straight kills by Honeycutt and Jessica Thompson and Wimmer. The Red-and-Black would go on 8-1 to take the lead at 20-16 over the Bulldogs. Wimmer would have four of the kills on the run to help carry the momentum from Truman State. Honeycutt would close out the match with the kill to take a 25-20 set win to win the match at 3-0 to win their first match of the season. 
 

Match 2:

Honeycutt led the Rangers in kills with nine in the second match, followed by Wimmer with five. Davis led the team in assists with 11, followed by Abigail Burns with nine. Tarra Parks led the team with ten digs in the match. 
 

Set 1:

Sioux Falls jumped out to an early lead as they would build a 10-4 lead following a 4-0 run. Wimmer had two kills of the opening four points for the Rangers. Northwestern would come back as close as 13-9 on a kill from Honeycutt. Sioux Falls would answer thoroughly with a 6-0 run to open a double-digit lead at 19-9 that would end the run following a service error. Sioux Falls would close the set on a 6-0 run and win the opening set 25-10 over the Rangers to take a 1-0 match lead. 
 

Set 2:

Sioux Falls carried the momentum over to the second set taking a 4-1. The Rangers would then trail 9-4 after a Ravyn Burns kill. USF would then take a 13-5 lead over the Rangers on a 4-1 run. Sioux Falls would open a 17-6 lead over the Rangers. Northwestern would take a 3-0 run to bring the deficit back under ten at 18-10 following a service ace from Parks. Northwestern would climb as close as 21-15 before Sioux Falls would win the set 25-15 over the Rangers and take a 2-0 match lead. 
 

Set 3: 

Rangers jumped out to an early 6-3 lead following back-to-back serves from Burns, but Sioux Falls would answer back with a 6-0 run to take a 9-6 lead over the Rangers. The third set would be locked at 11 following a service error before Sioux Falls would go on a 9-1 run to open a 20-12 lead that they would not lose in the set. Rangers would get as close as seven points, but Sioux Falls was able to close the Rangers out with a 25-15 set three victory to win the match 3-0. 
 

The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday, September 14th, as the Rangers take on Southeastern Oklahoma State for the team's home opener in the 2021 season.
