ALVA, Oklahoma- The Lady Rangers will close out their three game homestand Thursday as they play host to #14/ #17 Bulldogs Thursday evening in Percefull Fieldhouse with tip-off set for 5:30 PM. The Red-and-Black will look for their seventh straight victory after wins this past week over Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
Northwestern Oklahoma State (9-5 overall, 5-3 Great American Conference) face Southwestern Oklahoma State (14-2, overall, 8-0 GAC). Each team will put their win streak on the line as the Lady Rangers have won six straight with the Bulldogs winning their last 13 games. In the central region poll the Lady Rangers were receiving votes this week with Southwestern being ranked 2.
The third straight week the Lady Rangers had a player earn GAC player of the week. This week Bailey Brown earned the recognition after Scout Frame won week seven and Kinsey Neiderer had week six.
Northwestern will look to slow down a high powered Southwestern offense that averages 82.8 points per game, third in the conference and fifth in the nation. The Lady Ranger defense has held opponents to 63.5 points per game during the win streak and 62.4 on the season. This ranks second in the conference in points allowed. Northwestern has limited their opponents opportunities as the Rangers rank first in the conference in rebounding margin, and third in rebounds per game. The Lady Rangers force 18 turnovers per game, sixth in the conference averaging 10.3 steals per game.
The Lady Ranger defense has had contributions from multiple players as Carly Craig, Brown and Josena Frame each have 20+ steals on the season with Craig leading the team at 21. Camille Thomas leads the team with seven blocks on the year.
Northwestern averages 75.9 points per game ranks sixth in the conference with the second best scoring margin in the conference. The Red-and-Black have three players averaging double-figure points led by Brown with 18.4 on 55.5% shooting from the field with S.Frame scoring 14.2 points and Neiderer at 10.1 in each game. Neiderer leads the team in 3pt shooting hitting 46.8 percent from behind the arc which is second in the conference and 12th in the nation. Craig has led the offense in assists with 63 on the season which ranks second in the conference with Brown having 36 which is the 10th in the conference. Craig's assist to turnover ratio is fourth best in the league at 1.57.
Scouting the Bulldogs:
Southwestern has won 13 straight games along with eight conference games to open the GAC regular season. They come in with a 3-1 road record winning thier last three on the road.
The Bulldogs come into Thursday's game ranked first in assists and third in the conference in scoring per game. Makyra Tramble leads the team in scoring with 20.6 points per game as one of four players averaging double figures joined by Lauren Ramey (12.3), Macy Gore (10.6) and Karly Gore (10.1). Tramble leads the team with 80 assists on the season ranking first in the conference and eighth nationally. She is joined by Macy and Karly Gore in the top 10 in conference assists.
Their defense ranks sixth in the conference in points allowed per game at 67.1 a game. Tramble leads the team with 36 steals on the season followed by Bethany Franks having 34 on the season. Lauren Ramey has 18 blocks on the season followed by Tramble with 10.
History:
The series history is in favor of the Bulldogs as they lead 18-2 since the Division II era. The Lady Rangers will look to snap the 11 game win streak the Bulldogs currently have in the series, and the last five in Alva.
The Thursday game for the Men and Women's will be a black out for Ranger fans as 600 t-shirts will be handed out to fans sponsored by SGA and University Relations.
