Northwestern's Win Streak Snapped on the Road to Oklahoma Baptist

Shawnee Oklahoma- Northwestern Oklahoma State's seven game win streak was snapped Saturday afternoon to Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison would open the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to double digits and controlled the game from that point on. Oklahoma Baptist went on to win the game 68-52 over the Lady Rangers to sweep the season series.

 

The loss drops Northwestern to 10-6 on the season with a 6-4 conference record while Oklahoma Baptist improves to 9-7 on the year with a 5-5 conference record.

 

The Lady Rangers were led in scoring by Scout Frame with 20 points on the afternoon on 7-11 shooting from the field. Bailey Brown finished with a double-double 14 points along with a team high 12 rebounds. Carly Craig led the team with 2 assists. 

 

1st Quarter:

 

Oklahoma Baptist got the best of the two starts rattling off the first seven points of the game after knocking down a triple. S. Frame got the scoring started for the Lady Rangers with a layup down the baseline making it 7-2 game early in the first following a timeout in the early part of the quarter. Each defense started well as through the opening five minutes of the game. Out of the media timeout the Rangers were able to cut the deficit back down to four following a Josena Frame layup at 11-7. Oklahoma Baptist got their lead back to eight at 17-9. A Brown three pointer cut the Lady Ranger deficit in half at 19-16. The Lady Rangers closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to bring the game back to two at the conclusion of the 1st quarter the Bison led 21-19 through one quarter of play. 

 

2nd Quarter:

 

Brown started the second quarter strong for the Lady Rangers hitting her first shot of the quarter to even the score at 21-21. The game would remain tied for just over a minute before Oklahoma Baptist was able to regain the lead with a Savanna three pointer. The game would stay this way for two minutes into the halfway point of the quarter. A Kes Reeves three right out of the media timeout cut the deficit back down to two at 30-28 in favor of the Bison. In the final four minutes of play in the half OBU and the Rangers struggled to score from the field with a combined six points in the final going of the half. Each team forced two turnovers in the stretch and shot a combined 3-10 from the field. Northwestern went into the break trailing 34-30 as Stapleton hit a last second shot in the half to push the Bison up by four into the break. 

 

3rd Quarter:

 

Oklahoma Baptist started the second half strong offensively and defensively  as they opened with the first two field goals of the second half pushing the lead back to seven at 38-31. The defense between the two teams forced four turnovers in the next four minutes as only one field goal was hit between the two teams with a total of three points being scored. With five minutes to go in the third quarter Northwestern trailed 38-33 to the Bison. A Lockhart three with 3 minutes to go pushed the Bison lead to their largest to this point of the game at 44-35. The BIson defense was the true spark for OBU as they held the Lady Rangers 0-10 from the field before S. Frame hit the teams first shot of the quarter. This would put the Lady Rangers down 47-41 at the conclusion of the 3rd quarter. 

 

4th Quarter: 

 

The fourth quarter Oklahoma Baptist opened the quarter on an 8-0 run to open their largest lead at 55-41 with a 14 point lead early in the quarter. Camille Thomas stopped the Bison run with her layup for her fourth point of the afternoon. Thomas scored four straight for the Lady Rangers but a Lockhart three silenced the comeback bid. The Bison pushed their lead to 17, the largest of the game, before closing out the victory. Oklahoma Baptist won this game 68-52 over the Lady Rangers snapping the seven game win streak. 

 

The Red-and-Black will be back in action as they get ready to travel to Arkansas this next week with two games one against Harding on Thursday followed by Arkansas Tech that Saturday in Russellville.
