Alva, Okla. - The Northwestern Lady Rangers dropped Saturday afternoon's game to the Southern Arkansas Muleriders 71-47. This loss ends the previous seven game home winning streak for Northwestern. An early 12-0 run by The Lady Muleriders and a 36.8 three point shooting percentage allowed Southern Arkansas to take an early lead in which the Muleriders would not lose the rest of the way.
The Lady Rangers fall to 11-9 on the season and drop to .500 conference record of 7-7. The Lady Muleriders advance to a 5-9 conference record bringing them up to 10-10 on the season.
Scout Frame led the team with 15 points followed by Kinsey Neiderer with 8 and Bailey Brown with 7. S. Frame also led the team in rebounds with 10 followed by Brown with 9. S. Frame's double-double brought her up to four for the season.
1st Quarter: The Lady Rangers built off Thursday night's win with back-to -back early three pointers from Kinsey Neiderer and Carly Craig to open the game on a 6-0 run. The Lady Muleriders quickly responded with two free throws and a three pointer bringing the game back within one. Two made layups by Scout Frame put The Lady Rangers in the lead 10-5. The Lady Muleriders fired back with a deep left-wing three pointer. Both teams struggled to pull away until Southern Arkansas went on a 12-0 run putting them up 17-10 to end the quarter. S. Frame led the team with 4 followed by Neiderer and Craig with 3.
2nd Quarter: It was a slow start for both teams in the second quarter. S. Frame broke the Lady Mulerider run with a defensive rebound starting the Lady Ranger possession ending with a layup. Southern Arkansas responded by sinking two more three point shots. A made free throw by S.Frame left The Lady Rangers trailing by ten, 25-15. The Muleriders remained relentless, making a layup and three free throws. Craig and S.Frame responded by making two free throws each. The game quickly turned into a free throw contest as both teams made it to one and one shots with two minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Muleriders made two free throws late in the quarter. Neiderer responded by sinking a deep three for Northwestern, leaving The Rangers trailing 37-23-at the half. S. Frame led the team with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Neiderer with 5 points. Bailey Brown followed in rebounds with 6.
3rd Quarter: The Lady Muleriders were the first to score coming out of halftime with a layup and three pointer opening on a seven to nothing run. Senior Andi Pierce responded with two free throws. Teammate Brown contributed by finishing a contested layup. Southern Arkansas fired back with another three pointer. Both teams battled back and forth going point for point as the Mulriders maintained their double-digit lead. Pierce scored two jumpers to leave The Lady Rangers down 51-33 with three minutes remaining. The Lady Muleriders responded by sinking two more corner threes. S. Frame contributed a late layup to leave Northwestern trailing 35-57 going into the fourth quarter. S.Frame continued to lead The Lady Rangers with 15 points.
4th Quarter: The Lady Muleriders struck first once more with a successful jump shot, before Neiderer fired back with a jumper. Teammate Brown fed off Neiderer and contributed a layup. Off the bench, Carlie Badley contributed another layup, leaving The Rangers trailing by 20 at 41-61. Southern Arkansas fired off another three pointer late in the quarter. Badley responded with a putback layup with four minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Muleriders could not be stopped by the Lady Ranger defense, answering back with a three pointer and layup. The Muleriders topped Northwestern Saturday afternoon to even the season series 1-1 following their victory.
The Lady Rangers look to beat their local rivals as they travel to Weatherford and face off against The Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is set for this Thursday with a tip off at 5:30 PM as Northwestern looks to win the season series.
