ALVA, OKLA- The Lady Rangers are set to return to Percefull Fieldhouse to open a three-game homestand starting Thursday evening against Great American Conference opponent Henderson State Reddies. This will be the first of two meetings between the programs.
Northwestern Oklahoma State (7-5 overall 3-3 Great American Conference) enters Thursday's game on a four-game win streak, including three straight in conference play (Southeastern, Southern Arkansas, Arkansas-Monticello).
On Monday, senior forward Scout Frame earned Great American Conference player of the week,for the second straight week a Lady Ranger earned recognition after Kinsey Neiderer earned it the previous week.
The Lady Rangers have used smothering defense leading to the win streak only allowing an average of 61 points per game while forcing 69 turnovers an average of 17.5 a game. The Red-and-Black are averaging 80.5 points per game during this stretch averaging 21.3 assists per game.
Northwestern's defense has been led in blocks by Bailey Brown and Camille Thomas with six each on the season. Josena Frame leads the team with 19 steals followed by Brown and Carly Craig with 18 on the year as the Lady Rangers rank 4th in the conference and 34 in the nation in total steals with 131 through 12 games good for 10.9 per game. Northwestern is second in the conference for defensive points allowed with 61.4 a game.
The Red-and-Black rank 7th in the conference averaging 75.1 points per game. Brown leads the team with 17.3 per game on 55 percent shooting from the field as one of three double-figure scorers for the Lady Rangers. She is joined by Scout Frame who scores 12.1 per game. S. Frame has scored 20+ points in three of her last four games. The third Lady Ranger is Kinsey Neiderer at 10.4 points shooting 48.6 percent from behind the arc.
Craig leads the offense in sharing the ball with 50 assists on the season which ranks second individually in the conference and 39th in the nation for 4.2 a game. Brown joins in the conference top 10 as she ranks seventh with 35 to date. As a team, the Lady Rangers rank second in total assists in the conference and third per game with 15.7.
Scouting the Opponent Henderson State:
The Reddies (9-2 overall 4-1 Great American Conference) enter play Thursday winners of four straight games after beating Oklahoma Baptist before their Saturday game was postponed.
Northwestern will look to slow down a high-powered Reddie attack which is second in the conference and third in the nation in scoring per game at 85.1. Northwestern was able to hold the GAC leader to just 66 last Thursday who averaged 95 a game enter play last week.
Henderson State is led by Ashley Farar who is one of four double-figure scorers leading the way with 16.5 per game. Lani Snowden is second on the team with 13.5 tied with Gracie Raby on the season. The fourth leader is Karrington Whaley at 11.5. The Reddies like to share the ball much like the Lad Rangers as their team ranks fourth in the conference in assists per game and total, behind the Lady Rangers. Sonni Martin leads the team with 40 on the season.
Henderson State's defense allows 69 points per game which is the 8th best in the conference. Sonni Martin leads the team with 18 steals while Karrington Whaley leads HSU with 23 blocks.
History:
Northwestern trails the series history 10-6 since 2013 with Henderson State taking the last two games and four of the last five games. The Lady Rangers have taken three of the last four games at home though in Percefull Fieldhouse.
