Alva, Oklahoma - Northwestern returned to their home court to take on Henderson State University. In a reverse sweep The Reddies were able to overcome the Rangers 3-2. Addison Wimmer led the team in kills with 21. Cameron Lobb collected 45 assists and Andrea Coady accumulated 30 digs. Courtney Russell, Wimmer, and Lobb all had double-doubles for the night.
Set One:
The Rangers took an early lead against the Reddies with a 3-0 run. Henderson State responded with a 4-0 run to take the lead 5-4. Addison Wimmer and Carmae Jones fired off kills for the Rangers. A kill from Courtney Russell jump started another Northwestern run to regain the lead 12-8 and force the Reddies into a timeout. Henderson State responded with a solo block. Ravyn Burns contributed a middle kill right behind the ten-foot line. The Reddies fired back with a 4-1 run to trail by two points 15-13 and force Northwestern into a timeout. Jones fired back with a middle quick. The two teams battled point for point tying the game up at 19-19. Parks contributed a free ball kill and Wimmer fired off a cross shot kill to secure Northwestern's first se victory 25-19.
Set Two:
The two teams reached a stalemate in the second exchanging point for point. Wimmer contributed two kills. A soloblock from Henderson State tied the set at 5-5. Lobb fired off a setter dump. Back to back kills from Wimmer once again allowed Northwestern to climb forward 9-5. Burns added a cross court kill from the rightside. The Reddies fought back with a 3-0 run. Wimmer quickly responded with a kill. Both teams began trading points back and forth once again. Back to back kills from Tarra Parks allowed Northwestern to pull away 16-12. Russell contributed an off speed kill. Lobb fired off another setter dump and an ace serve to extend the Ranger lead 22-16. A ten foot line tip kill from Jones clenched the second set victory 25-16.
Set Three:
Northwestern stole their first point with a tandem kill from Wimmer. Russell contributed back to back kills to keep the Rangers ahead 4-3. The Reddies responded with a tip kill to the donut. Parks fired off a kill from the right side. A 3-0 run from Henderson State forced Northwestern into a timeout and allowed them to lead 9-6. Russell came out of the timeout with a deep push to the line for a kill. Wimmer fired off back to back kills. A middle kill from the Reddies allowed them to hold onto their lead 12-9. Henderson State strung together another 3-0 run to further their lead. Russell and Wimmer contributed a kill each to close the gap 20-14. Henderson State continued running, taking the third 25-17.
Set Four:
The two teams went point for point to start the fourth. Wimmer and Jones fired off a kill each. A solo block from Jones allowed Northwestern to pull away 6-3. The Reddies quickly responded with a 3-0 run. Burns contributed a middle tip kill. Henderson State fired off an ace serve. The two teams settled into a stalemate once again. Russell contributed an offspeed kill to the donut. Burns powered through the block to continue the tie 10-10. Henderson State strung together another 4-1 run to force The Rangers into a timeout. Out of the timeout, Wimmer powered off back to back kills. The Reddies quickly responded with another run to extend their run 18-13. Jones fought back with a kill to jumpstart a 3-0 run for Northwestern. Henderson State fired back with back to back kills to hold onto their lead 21-18. A slide kill from the Reddies allowed them to clench the fourth and tie the match 25-22.
Set Five:
A rightside kill from Wimmer and outside kill from Parks allowed the Rangers to take an early lead in the fifth 5-2. The Reddies quickly responded with a 10 foot line kill. A soloblock from Henderson State forced Northwestern into a timeout and tied the game 5-5. The Reddies continued their momentum stringing together 4 straight points. Parks ended their run by powering through the block leaving the Rangers trailing 10-6. A soloblock and setter dump allowed Henderson State to take the fifth 15-7 and win the match.
The Rangers continue their two day, four game homestand tomorrow against Ouachita Baptist. Northwestern will play the Tigers in Percefull at 4 PM.
