Shawnee, Oklahoma - For the first time in school history, The Rangers matched up in a championship game against Harding University. Despite an outstanding performance, Northwestern lost the match 1-3. Addison Wimmer broke the tournament kills record and led the team with 17. Cameron Lobb accumulated 35 assists and Andrea Coady collected 17 digs. Wimmer picked up her third consecutive double-double. Wimmer and Lobb received all tournament team honors.
Set One:
The two teams started the match exchanging point for point. Carmae Jones and Addison Wimmer fired off a kill each. Harding quickly responded with a kill and an ace serve to lead 4-2. Northwestern countered with a 5-0 run to steal the lead. Courtney Russell and Ravyn Burns contributed back to back kills. Russell fired off a soloblock to extend the Ranger lead 8-5. Northwestern's defense remained strong at the net to continue propelling the team forward. Tarra Parks fired off a banger to further the Ranger lead to five at 11-6. Parks and Wimmer continued producing, contributing a kill each to keep the momentum on their side. The Bison countered with a 3-0 run to force Northwestern into a timeout and close the gap 16-11. Out of the timeout, Jones contributed a soloblock to end the run. Wimmer fired off a kill. Harding countered by stringing together back to back 3-0 runs to make it a one point game at 19-18. Burns fired off a ten foot kill to hold onto Northwesterns lead. A challenge from The Rangers resulted in an overturned call to push the Ranger lead 21-18. Russell fired off a deep kill from the middle. The Bison responded with a setter dump and back to back kills to tie the game at 22-22. Wimmer contributed a back row kill. Each team battled back and forth for the final points extending the match into extra points. Wimmer fired off a cross shot kill and powered through the block for another kill to upset the number one seed in the first set 27-25.
Set Two:
The Bison capitalized on a few Ranger errors to start the match. Cameron Lobb fired off a setter dump. Jones powered through the block for a kill to push Northwestern into an early lead 3-2. Harding countered with a 3-0 run to take the lead 6-3. Russell contributed a deep kill and Lobb fired off an ace serve to keep Northwestern in striking distance. The Bison responded with a solo block and back to back kills to force the Rangers into a timeout and steal the lead at 10-7. Out of the timeout, Parks swung through the block to end Harding's run. Burns contributed an overpass kill. Jones fired off a solo block to leave Northwestern trailing 10-14. Harding continued swinging, extending their lead to five points and forcing the Rangers into a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Bison strung together a 4-0 run to further their lead 20-11. Wimmer contributed a kill to end their run. Lobb fired off another ace for the match. Wimmer stayed hot, powered through for another kill to close the gap 22-16. Harding responded with a tip kill to hold onto their lead. Russell contributed another deep kill from the middle and an ace serve to further close the gap 23-20. Jones powered through the block for a kill to force the Bison into their final timeout. Russell fired off another ace to tie the game 23-23. Harding responded with back to back kills to take the second 25-23.
Set Three:
The two teams battled for dominance in the first. Jones fired off a kill that jump started a 3-0 Ranger run to take the lead 4-3. Harding responded with an ace serve and a kill. Another ace serve from the Bison allowed them to steal the lead 8-4. Lobb countered with an ace serve of her own. Wimmer and Burns fired off a kill each to close the gap. Harding responded with a kill. Russell contributed a middle kill. A net call on the Bison tied the game at 10-10. A block from Jones allowed Northwestern to take the lead back and force Harding into a timeout. The two teams entered a stalemate exchanging point for point. The Bison started to run away with a kill and solo block to force the Rangers into a timeout 15-13. Out of the timeout, Harding continued running. Wimmer ended their momentum with a kill. Russell contributed another kill to leave the Rangers trailing 19-16. The Bison countered with another 3-0 run. Burns powered through the block for another kill to end their run. Harding fired off back to back kills to clinch the second 25-17 and lead the match 2-1.
Set Four:
Northwestern capitalized on Bison errors to lead the fourth. A kill from Wimmer and an ace serve from Coady advanced their lead 4-2. Harding responded with a 5-0 run to steal the lead. Wimmer countered with a kill. Jones and Lobb contributed a kill each to leave the Rangers trailing 10-13. Wimmer powered through the block for another kill. The Bison responded with a 4-0 run. Burns ended their run with a kill from the right side. Harding countered once more with a run to further their lead 21-15. Wimmer powered through the block on the right side for another kill. Russell and Burns continued their outstanding defensive performance to keep pushing forward 22-18. Jones fired off a kill from the middle. Despite their best efforts, the Bison took the fifth 25-21.
