SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State dropped their second straight game Saturday evening to Oklahoma Baptist on the road. The Bison used a 12-0 run to open a double digit lead that the Bison would not lose. Oklahoma Baptist finished with a 70-62 victory.
FIRST HALF:
Rangers opened the scoring a minute and half into the opening half as Butters knocked down a layup to break the scoreless game. White followed with his first points of the evening as the Rangers took a 4-0 lead. Bison would score their first points of the game with 17:40 left in the half. Parsons and Butters scored in back to back possessions for the Rangers as Northwestern went up 8-2 over the Bison. Three straight for Oklahoma Baptist cut the Ranger lead down to 8-5 following a Freeman dunk.
After a defensive stretch between the two teams Udoumoh broke the scoring drought at 14:36 to play. Parson answered back with a jump shot at the elbow. The Bison took their first lead at the 12:26 mark following two foul shots by King. Hancik quickly answered back to regain the lead at 12-11. After the media timeout Wilcox put the Bison back in front as the two teams continued to trade leads.Oklahoma Baptist opened their largest lead to this point at 17-12 following a jump by Doomes. Freeman gave the Bison a 20-17 lead at the under eight media timeout. Out of the break Oklahoma Baptist took a 31-17 lead following a 12-0 run by the Bison. Oklahoma Baptist held the 10 point lead until about a minute left as Chance Love hit a shot inside the paint to send the game into halftime trailing 35-27.
SECOND HALF:
Following the halftime break the Bison scored first on a jump shot just a minute into the half taking a 37-27 lead, before Parsons answered. A layup by Kennedy Milton brought Northwestern back within six at 40-34 at 16:57 and eventually into a timeout. The team's defenses continued to step up as the team traded turnovers and faced a scoring drought. Butters brought the Rangers within five at 44-39 at the 11:24 mark of the half.
Out of the break the teams traded points back and forth from that point from a five to seven point deficit from the Rangers struggling to find rhythm kept the Bison in the lead. Parson knocked down a layup on the fastbreak to bring Northwestern back within five at 50-45. With 6:42 left to play Oklahoma Baptist regained their eight point lead from two foul shots from King for a 54-46 lead over the Rangers. A free three pointer pushed the deficit back to five at 54-49 from the right corner.
Oklahoma Baptist had an answer each time Northwestern would cut into the deficit. The Rangers brought the deficit back within five at 61-56 but Ricky Brown knocked down OBU's second three of the game to extend the lead back to eight. Larry White got it back to six at 68-62 but two Bison foul shots closed the game at 70-62 for Oklahoma Baptist victory over Northwestern Saturday.
The Rangers will return to action Saturday by hosting Southern Nazarene on December 10th with tip-off set for 3:00 PM following the conclusion of the Lady Rangers game.
