SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers had their four game win streak snapped to Oklahoma Baptist Saturday evening. The Bison used a 15 point second quarter advantage to take the game 80-50 final score.
First Quarter:
Northwestern opened the scoring for the Lady Rangers with a corner jump shot just inside the arc as the Rangers led 2-0. The Red-and-Black defense came out strong to start the game as the Bison took just over two minutes in to get their first points evening the score at two. As both defenses caused problems with one's offense the game was locked at 4-4 following a Simpson layup four minutes into the game. A Craig three pointer pushed the Rangers in front into the first quarter media timeout at 7-4. Craig hit her second straight three to push the Ranger lead to 10-4. The Bison closed the gap to 10-8 before a jump shot in the corner pushed the Ranger lead to 12-8 before two foul shots by Duncan cut the Ranger lead down to two at the end of the opening quarter.
Second Quarter:
Orange opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup to put the Rangers back up by four points at 14-10 before the Bison stormed back on one of their largest run of the game. Northwestern led 17-15 following two foul shots from Camille Thomas. Ankney followed by a Highfill three gave the Bison a 20-19 lead. Southard went back to back with Highfill to extend the run to 8-0. The run grew to 10 to give the Bison a 25-19 lead before a Nikya Orange jumper ended the Bison run bringing the Rangers back within four. Highfill and Savanna put the Bison right back on the board helping the team take their first double digit lead of the evening at 33-2. Oklahoma Baptist took their largest lead of the half at 38-23 before Paige Scott hit a layup in the closing seconds to send the game to halftime with the Rangers trailing 38-25.
Third Quarter:
Bison opened the quarter where they left off in the first half hitting the first points of the half. A Craig three brought the Rangers back within 12 before the Bison opened a 19 point lead their largest at the time. Out of a timeout the Lady Rangers went on an 11-0 run started by Orange with a layup. Craig followed with a three and a fastbreak layup off her own steal as a Simpson layup brought it to 49-41. A 7-0 run brought the Bison lead back to 15 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Simpson started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a foul shot. After two minutes Chambers broke the scoring drought for OBU taking a 60-44. With five minutes to go the deficit reached 20. Oklahoma Baptist closed the game on a 31-9 run following the Rangers 11-0 run as the Bison won the Saturday matchup with a final score of 80-50.
Northwestern will return to action Saturday afternoon at home in Percefull Fieldhouse with a 1:00 PM tip-off set on December 10th.
