Rangers Fall to Reddies on Buzzer Beater Ending Seven Game Win Streak

Arkadelphia, Ark. - Henderson State ends Northwestern's seven game winning streak on a buzzer beater three, defeating The Rangers 72-69. The two teams battled back and forth the entire game. As a late Reddies run pushed them past the Rangers.
 

This loss drops Northwestern to an 11-6 conference and 16-7 overall record. Henderson State advances to a 14-9 overall record with a 10-7 conference record. 
 

Larry White led the team with 17 points. He was followed by Anthony Jones with 13 and Brian Free with 12. Furlong led in rebounds with 9. Jones also led the team in assists with 5. 
 

1st Half - Building off the momentum of their win Thursday night The Rangers came out strong against The Reddies as Brian Free fired off a three pointer in the first 30 seconds of play. Bubba Furlong contributed a layup for an early 5-0 Ranger run. Henderson State responded with a three pointer. Anthony Jones fired back with a jumper, free throw, and three pointer. The Reddies responded with another three pointer to leave them trailing 11-6 going into the first media timeout. Out of the commercial break, Jones finished a fast break jumper to extend The Ranger lead. The Reddies responded with two back to back three pointers. Malik Parsons made a layup to keep The Ranger lead 15-14 before the second media timeout. 
 

Coming off the bench, Ravel Moody fired off a three pointer for Northwestern. The Reddies responded with a fast break layup. The two teams battled defensively back and forth until Free fired off a three pointer to advance The Ranger lead 22-18. Out of the timeout Free made another three pointer for Northwestern. The Reddies responded with two back to back three pointers to close the gap. Jones made a dribble-drive layup to keep The Rangers ahead 27-24 before the final media timeout. 
 

After two minutes of no scoring, Larry White fired off a three pointer to extend The Ranger lead. Henderson State quickly answered back with a jumper. White responded with another three pointer. A three point play and two free throws allowed The Reddies to take the lead 34-33 going into halftime. Jones and Free led the team with 10 points each. The two were followed by White with 6. Furlong contributed 5 rebounds and Jones contributed 4 assists.  
 

2nd Half - Out of halftime White sunk a jumper. The Reddies quickly fired back with a layup. White responded by sinking another jumper and three pointer. Jones contributed a free throw to extend The Ranger lead. Henderson State answered back with a hookshot keeping pace with the Rangers. Another three points by White allowed The Rangers to regain their lead 45-40. Out of the commercial break White contributed another two free throws. The Reddies responded with a three point jump shot. An offensive rebound and dunk by Furlong kept Northwestern's momentum. Off the bench, Moody contributed a dribble-drive layup to extend the lead. The Reddies responded with two free throws and a layup. Neither time scored for the next two minutes. Off the bench, Eric Hancik broke the silence with a layup to keep The Rangers in the lead 53-49 going into the second media timeout. 
 

Out of the commercial break The Reddies sank two free throws. Jones contributed a free throw to The Ranger lead. Another two free throws and layup by Henderson State closed the gap to a three point game. Parsons sank two free throws to further Northwestern's lead going into the third media timeout 58-53. Out of the timeout, Moody knocked down two more free throws. The Reddies fired back with a three point shot and a jumper. Hancik contributed two more free throws to hold The Ranger lead 63-59 going into the final media timeout of the game. 
 

Henderson State sank two free throws. Parsons responded for The Rangers with a jumper. The Reddies fired back with an additional two free throws. Free sank two free throws to keep The Rangers ahead. A late jumper and a fast break layup by The Reddies tied the game at 67-67 with a minute left of play. Northwestern would go two of four at the line late bringing it to a 69-69 tie. A buzzer beater three pointer by Henderson State ended The Rangers seven game win streak with a final score of 72-69. 
 

Northwestern heads back to Oklahoma next week for a make up game due to inclimate weather. They face off against The Bulldogs of Southwestern at Weatherford on Tuesday with a tip off at 7:30 PM. Northwestern will play three games this upcoming week vs Southwestern, Arkansas Tech and Harding.
