BOLIVAR, MISSOURI - Northwestern Oklahoma State played a mid-week double header against Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats took both games after a come from behind victory in the seventh inning of game one and then capitalized on a three run third inning for a 3-1 win.
With the two losses the Rangers drop to 9-13 on the season as the Bearcats improve to 5-12.Â
GAME ONE :Â
Hannah Howell had the game on start for the Rangers, throwing five innings allowing two runs, as Allie Hufford relieved Howell for the final two innings of the game.Â
Mackenzie Adams led the team with two hits in the afternoon along with one RBI tied with six others in the afternoon. These included Genesis Rodriguez, Abby DeTar, Lindsey McElroy, Allison Zanca, Morgan La Neve and Hannah Howell. Adams hit the only home run of the game for the Rangers.Â
The home team Bearcats got things started early after a shutdown top of the first inning. They responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as a single followed by a stolen base set up a runner in scoring position after a sacrifice fly by Frossard gave them a 1-0 lead.
Adams wasted no time answering back in the Rangers half of the second on a leadoff solo home run to left field to tie the game back at one a piece. Howell kept the game at 1-1 after working around two hits and an error.Â
Northwestern's offense stayed aggressive just an inning later as they followed tying the game by having a five run third inning. It all started as DeTar drew a walk before stealing second before Howell singled her home. The Rangers would then load the bases before Zanca, La Neve drew back to back walks pushing home two runs. Rodriguez was then hit by a pitch to push fourth run of the inning across. DeTar drew her second walk of the inning to give the Rangers a 6-1 lead with a five run inning.Â
Howell retired the Bearcats in order as the Rangers held a 6-1 lead through three innings. Southwest Baptist's offense struck in the fourth, starting their comeback bid after a leadoff single in which would come around to score later in the inning on an RBI single to cut their deficit to 6-2.Â
The Rangers were retired in order before the Bearcats offense pushed one across in the bottom half of their inning. Frossard doubled to left center before coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Henson. The Rangers led 6-3 through the first five innings.Â
In the sixth inning the Rangers got things started on a walk by Jocelyn Long as she stole second putting herself in scoring position. McElroy hit a RBI double, extending the Rangers lead.Â
A lead off triple sparked the Southwest comeback as she was followed with an RBI double cutting the Ranger lead to 7-4. After a walk Bagby singled home two runs as the Rangers still led 7-6. Griffin extended the game on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 7-7 as through seven the game was tied.Â
In the eighth inning DeTar doubled but the Rangers runner was thrown out at the plate holding the game at 7-7 before the Bearcats walked-off with a win in their half of the inning. McConville hit a solo home run to leadoff the 8th as the Bearcats won game one 8-7.Â
GAME TWO:Â
DeTar led the team with three hits in game two of the team's four hits along with the teams lone RBI. Jill Bouse had the other hits for the Red-and-Black with La Neve scoring the one run.Â
Hannah Scoggin pitched a complete game in the loss, throwing six innings striking out one.Â
After a scoreless first inning the Rangers got things started in their half of the second pushing across the game's first run. La Neve started things for the Rangers reaching base safely. Kailin Lian moved her to third reaching safely on an error before DeTar hit an RBI single back up the middle. Scoggin pitched a scoreless second inning holding the Rangers 1-0 lead.Â
Following a scoreless third inning for the Rangers the Bearcats struck in their half of the third inning with three runs taking their first lead of the game. After a leadoff triple Frossard came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game at one. Griffin extended the inning on a walk, and a Cook single before a 2- RBI double put Southwest Baptist out in front 3-1 in the third inning.Â
After the teams traded scoreless innings as the Rangers went down in order the Red-and-Black had a scoring opportunity in the sixth inning getting one hit in the inning from Jill Bouse but she was not able to score.Â
The seventh inning the Ranges brought the tying run to the plate. Taylor Graham drew a walk to start the inning followed by a single by DeTar but they were left there as the Bearcats escaped with no damage holding on to their 3-1 victory in game two.Â
The Rangers will be back in action at home Friday and Saturday for a three game series against Henderson State. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 2:00 followed by Saturday's game at 11:00 AM.Â
