Rangers Fall to Ouachita Baptist Friday Afternoon

ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers fell in their Friday afternoon doubleheader in both games. Ouachita used a three run seventh inning to take game one 4-3 in walk-off fashion. The Tigers used a five run second inning to take control in game one with a 7-2 lead before winning 10-7.

GAME ONE:
Howell received the game one start for the Rangers against the Tigers throwing six innings allowing one run with one strikeout. Hufford relieved Howell, striking out two in her inning of work.

Abby DeTar led the team with two RBI in the game with one hit in the game. Allison Zanca led the Rangers with three hits, a run and an RBI in the game one loss. Howell and Jocelyn Long scored the other runs for the Rangers.

In the first inning the pitchers settled in quickly as the Rangers went down in order in their half of the first inning. The Tigers threatened to score in their half of the inning with back to back singles before a walk loaded the bases. Howell escaped with no damage done getting Lester to pop out.

Rangers got their first hit of the afternoon with a single from Zanca  but that was all the Rangers could get in the inning as he was left on first. The Tigers put two runners on base for the second straight inning but like the first inning Howell was able to escape with no damage done. The game remained 0-0 through two innings.

The game remained 0-0 through four innings following Howell escaping another jam in the third. The Rangers offense broke through in the fifth inning. Howell led the inning off with a double to left center before Zanca went back to back doubles for the first run of the game at 1-0 lead. The Rangers would not stop there though as DeTar singled to center scoring two more runs for a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers answered back in their half of the inning with one run to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Tigers loaded the bases with two singles and a hit batter before a wild pitch allowed the Tigers' first run of the game as the Rangers still led by two.

Each team had base runners in the sixth but were unable to have them score as the game remained 3-1 through six innings following back to back line outs.

The seventh inning Rangers had a single by Zanca before three straight outs retired Northwestern without a run. Ouachita had their first three runners reach base safely on a hit batter followed by two straight singles. Hufford had back to back strikeouts for two outs before a double by Turnbow to right center cleared the bases for a walk off 4-3 victory over the Rangers.

GAME TWO:

Abby DeTar continued to hit well into game two with two hits and two RBI's both tied for team highs in the game. She was one of four players with two hits in the game. Zanca continued into game two as well with a 2-RBI game. Jill Bouse and Morgan La Neve each had one RBI.

Hannah Scoggin through the first two innings of the game striking out three batters before being relieved by Victoria Vasquez throwing four innings allowing one unearned run.

Unlike in game one the offenses jumped out fast in game two as the Rangers plated two runs in the first inning after Lindsey McElroy drew a walk before a triple by Zanca scored the first run as she came around to score on an error.

The Tigers singled to start their half of the first inning before a walk and a ground out moved the runners to second and third. A single to center field tied the game at two with both runners coming around to score.

Northwestern was shut down in their half of the second inning leaving one on base. A leadoff walk proved costly for the Rangers after a wild pitch followed by a single to right center pushed the Tigers in front for the first time in game two. With the bases loaded a fielder's choice pushed the fourth run across for the Tigers. The home team scored three more in the inning following a wild pitch and groundout scored two moving a runner to third. A single scored the seventh run of the game for the Tigers for a 7-2 lead through two innings of play.

The Red-and-Black tried to get the runs back with a single and a walk pushing two runners on base but was stopped there as two runners were stranded. The Tigers tacked on three more in their half to push the lead to 10-2. The inning started with a double and single setting up runners on the corners. A single by Moyer scored two runs with an error on the play making it 9-2. Brown followed with an RBI groundout making the game 10-2 through three innings.

Northwestern did not go away quietly though, answering back with three runs in the fourth inning. Jayden Solberg and Jaci Oakley started the inning off reaching base safely on a single and a hit batter. A groundout moved them up a base before a single by DeTar knocked home two runs for a 10-4 game. Zanca followed with an RBI single for the Rangers fifth run of the game but the rally ended there as the inning came to a close with an out at the plate.

Northwestern tried to rally for more runs pushing two runners on base but would be shut down there as the game remained 10-5 through the fifth inning. Rangers got one run back in the sixth inning to cut their deficit down to four as a walk followed by a single set the Rangers up in business. With runners on first and second a La Neve singled scored a run for a 10-6 game.

After Vasquez retired the Tigers in order the Rangers pushed the tying run to the plate before their rally was killed there. Two singles and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out before a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 10-7. A fly out ended the game in favor of the Tigers as Ouachita took both games Friday evening.

Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday morning with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 AM as the Rangers look to take game three of the series on the road.
