Box Score Shawnee, Okla. - The Lady Rangers fall to The Lady Bison, in their final game of the season in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference tournament. Harding took advantage of a strong third quarter out scoring the Lady Rangers 15-0 in the quarter for the win Friday.
Northwestern finishes the season with an 11-12 conference record and 15-14 overall record. Harding University advances to a 19-9 overall record with a 15-8 conference record. They play in round two of the tournament tomorrow evening.
Senior Bailey Brown led the game in points with 15. She also led in rebounds with 13. This was Brown's 7th double double of the season and 29th in her career at Northwestern. Carly Craig led the team with 4 assists.
1st Quarter: The Lady Bison struck first with an early three pointer. Neither team scored for the next two minutes as both battled back and forth defensively. To break the silence, Josena Frame drew a foul heading to the line before knocking down the free throw for The Lady Rangers. Harding quickly responded with a three pointer, taking an early lead. Kinsey Neiderer answered back with a layup. Bailey Brown contributed a layup for Northwestern to close the gap on The Lady Bison. Harding responded with a layup and three pointer. Neiderer fired off a three pointer for The Lady Rangers. Off the bench, Kes Reeves built on Northwestern's momentum by sinking her first three pointer. Harding responded with a three pointer to hold onto their lead. Off the bench, Camille Thomas contributed a three point play for The Lady Rangers as she capped it off with a foul shot. The Lady Bison responded with a layup and free throw to extend their lead 21-17 at the end of the quarter.
2nd Quarter: Both teams started slowly in the second quarter, not scoring for the first two minutes. Brown broke the silence by sinking a free throw for The Lady Rangers. Harding quickly responded with a layup. Brown answered back with a layup as the teams traded points in the early going. The Lady Bison fired off another three pointer to hold their lead at five. Once again, Brown fought back for the Lady Rangers scoring a layup and free throw. Carly Craig contributed a three pointer for Northwestern to close the gap. Brown added an additional layup to leave The Lady Rangers trailing by one 29-28 halfway through the quarter. Harding answered with a 6-0 run. Craig responded with a pull up jumper. The Lady Bison responded with a layup. A three pointer by Neiderer at the buzzer for the Lady Rangers closed the gap on Harding, leaving Northwestern trailing 38-35 at halftime. Brown led the team in points with 12. Brown also led in rebounds with six followed closely by S.Frame with five. Craig led with four assists.
3rd Quarter: The Lady Bison built off their first half lead with a layup and free throw to open the third quarter pushing the Ranger deficit to double digits. Following the trend of the previous quarters, neither team would score for the next three and a half minutes. Harding broke the silence with a layup and a three pointer. The Lady Bison won the third quarter with a 15-0 run as they Lady Rangers were shutout in the third. Northwestern trailed 53-35 at the start of the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter: Out of the quarter break, Brown scored a layup and free throw as she tried to help the Lady Rangers climb back. S.Frame contributed a three point play for Northwestern. The Lady Bisons responded with an 8-0 run. S.Frame answered back with two free throws. J.Frame contributed another free throw. Craig added an additional jumper for a late 6-0 Lady Ranger run. Harding quickly responded with back to back layups. Off the bench, Carlie Badley and Thomas each knocked down shots for Northwestern. The Lady Bison defeated The Lady Rangers 67-50.
